YouTube says "Video unavailable This content isn't available." with Norton VPN switched on

I’ve used NVPN for years but lately I see “Video unavailable This content isn’t available.” when I try to watch any YouTube videos.

I have cleared my PC cache, rebooted, and changed the VPN country with no change.

It only works when I turn NVPN off entirely, proving there’s a compatibility issue now with NVPN and YouTube.

What’s the solution or workaround for this? Are Norton going to ensure that normal service is restored or do I have to switch to a different VPN provider?

Hello @Redspan
Please confirm you’re standalone Norton Secure VPN?
any specific video for testing…my side?
Curious, did you try Ad Tracker Blocking off…as test.
what browser?

fwiw ~ as brief test:
Norton 360 v24 + Edge with uBlock Origin + VPN on.
YouTube okay my side w/wo Ad Tracker Blocking.

Maybe, I need further testing.

Edit:
fwiw ~ further brief testing
Norton 360 v24.10.9535.881 + Edge v130.0.2849.68 w/wo extensions + VPN on.
YouTube okay my side w/wo Ad Tracker Blocking.

Caveat: I seldom run VPN…at home
as always, your mileage may vary

“Video unavailable. This content isn’t available.” Cannot watch anything while signed in on PC.

Yes, it’s standalone Norton Secure VPN. All and any videos are not playable. Access to YouTube and all the thumbnails are all normal. I’m signed in using my Google account. I’m using Chrome on an up to date Windows 11 Home. I’ve just tested and it’s the same result on DuckDuckGo.

As I say, it’s worked fine for years but stopped a days ago without any configuration changes on my PC. My guess YouTube have changed something, but what?

Do you know standalone Norton Secure VPN version number?

I don’t run standalone. Maybe, standalone user will confirm your report.

Maybe, Norton 360 VPN is different. YouTube okay my side.

v6.5.0.59

I too tested YouTube with my standalone Norton Secure VPN set to USA and did not have any issues with the videos I viewed.

Are the videos you are viewing anything you had subscribed to? Can you post a link to an example of a video that does not work, along with the virtual location you have chosen in the VPN?

It’s every video. Subscribed or unsubscribed, new or old. Turn off the VPN and I can view. Turn it on and I can’t watch it.

I’ve tested numerous videos and locations.

This is happening to me as well, but only with two countries: the USA and MX. The reason is that these IPs provided by Norton are now flagged everywhere: Spotify, YouTube, and the list goes on. I reported this months ago, and they need to renew the IPs as soon as possible.

Same problem here. Did all of the recommendations, turn tracking off, location set, etc., etc. Still broken. For all of the dang popups I am bombarded with all day everyday for new features, you would expect that VPN would work with probably the top 2 or 3 most visited site.

Same. Was able to watch youtube videos until just a few days ago… here’s just one of MANY that I can’t watch; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ws7icVErtbI

and here is another https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ao8FEvLq6zQ&list=PLFH-7SSqHS5LoPHj0sgAUaSG5Vmk-0NdV

virtual location is USA

Just went through all of Youtube’s trouble shooting steps (cleared cache, update chrome, check Restricted settings, tried another browser, reboot laptop) and nothing fixed the issue. Turned off my VPN and I can then watch videos… Norton needs to step and fix this!

It’s USA and UK that doesn’t work.

I switched the location to Austria and videos play again.

I think someone has already mentioned that it’s just these two locations.

yea… we tried Switzerland… still didn’t work… on a chat now with Tech support… they seem to understand there is an issue and waiting now for a dedicated team to take of the escalated case.

Been having the same issues for over a week now…video unavailable message whenever I try to open any video or short received via SMS, Whatsapp or in general too. Issue is directly related to norton VPN as it’s the culprit on both iphone and my PC. Videos play when I disable norton vpn to test. I use Chrome on windows 10 pro on the PC and Safari or youtube app on iphone.
