To upgrade or not upgrade? NIS to the new product

Hi All

I have 15 days to go before I have to renew my NIS 20.6.0.27 (I do have an update waiting to happen, but I am so over updating etc etc, hence my NIS product number)  and I find myself wondering about whether to upgrade to the latest product or jump ship to another product.

I would like some pros and cons if you could, of people who already have the new product. Is it hassle free? Does it work being cloud based and not on the computer....and for the biggie will Symantec reinvent the wheel again and bring out a new product this year, the next year and the year after that.As you may gather I am a little jaded about how many times a product can be reinvented...I just want simplicity not a headache of learning a new product.

Cheers Mo Windows 7 64 bit, NIS2013

Re: To upgrade or not upgrade? NIS to the new product

Hi mo,

NS / NSwB aren't available in Australia just yet anyway but apparently will be by later this year.  You can renew NIS and if you so desire, purchase NS when it is available and ask Customer Support to transfer your remaining days to your new subscription.

I've been using NSwB since it was in beta and while it did have a major issue on some systems taking up to and over twenty minutes to shut down, since they've fixed that I've been quite happy and NSwB has been working flawlessly  -  your mileage may vary.

As for cloud based, so is NIS v21.

A little bit of knowledge is... well a little bit of knowledge.

Re: To upgrade or not upgrade? NIS to the new product

Hello mo

Once it does become available to you, you can install it right over the top of your NIS/N360/NAV. It installs very easily and keeps most of your settings. If you use identity safe, I would recommend backing that up as you should be doing any way.

Success always occurs in private and failure in full view. Windows 7 Pro 64 bit NSBU 22.17.0.183 Core Firmware 282 I E 11 Chrome latest version.

Thanks,I am on NIS 20 so that means no cloud? I did not know its not available here so thanks for that piece of news. Do you know the cheapest place to renew from? I note you have Mbam premium as well so you can run the paid version with Norton with no issues.

I gave up using identity safe when it went cloud.

Hello mo

I'm not sure if NS can go right on top of NIS if you are still on 20. I know it can when it's on 21.

Some retails shops have N360 Multi Device on sale at times.  To be honest I haven't seen NIS for a year or more anywhere.  You might have more luck depending on where you are.

Harvey Norman currently have one user one year of N360MD $58, or three users one year for $98.

Dick Smith have three user one year for $79.95

.... Or Norton AU renewal  -  http://au.norton.com/upgrade-center/promo?inid=au_hho_navbar_topnav3_upgrade_to_center

To buy a new subscription  -  http://au.norton.com/internet-security/

Depending on where you live you might have other options too.  Let Google be your friend, but of course only buy from a reputable source.

MBAM says you should run it along side an AV and so far I've not had any problems.

I've still got a local vault with NSwB but you need to upgrade from NIS12 or N360v6 after creating a local vault.

Have you upgraded your NETGEAR's firmware lately?  The latest version is DGND3700v2 Firmware Version 1.1.00.23(WW Users).

Re: To upgrade or not upgrade? NIS to the new product

Thanks for the netgear suggestion,I had done it before but did not know there was another update.

I decided on renewing through the product for $49.99 which is not a bad price. It was smooth,I was glad to see the opt out choice of the automatic renewal process.

I have another issue I need to download my third license NIS to my sons netbook, can I do this with the version of NIS I am running?

Yep, you can sign in to your account on your son's machine and download an activated copy, or download from http://www.norton.com/latestnis which you can activate with your Product Key.

Yeah Mo,  it sure is different.  You might get used to it if you spent more time here.

Always glad to help another Aussie.  We're a bit out numbered in this global community.
