Our renewal is almost here on our Norton Antivirus. Should we get the Norton Security and is the Antivirus only good until November?
Thank you for your help.
Your Antivirus program is good until your subscription ends depending on how old your version is.. What Norton program and what version is it?(Help>About)
Here is some information comparing the various programs.
Thanks to F4E for the link.
Hope this helps.
Please come back and let us know what you decide to do.
The version of the Antivirus we have is 220.127.116.11. You're saying when our subscription is up we won't be able to purchase another antivirus by itself. We'll have to buy the Internet Security?
Hi, Mantis. Depending on your country, NIS and Norton 360 may still be available.
Noron Security and Norton Security with Backup are the new products.
It's suggested you purchase the product that suits you best, and if you have a decent number of days remaining on your sub, then Support can add those days, but you must purchase and install the new product first.
Ok, then the Antivirus is gone, kaput. We have minimal days left on our antivirus subscription. We bought Norton Internet Security when it first came out. It worked great for a few days and then we got locked out of our computer from it. We could not get into it. We had to use the recovery discs and everything was fine. We did not reinstall Norton Internet Security. We purchased just the Norton Antivrus and we've never had that problem again. We have since discovered that NIS has a firewall with it. We did have 2 firewalls running at the same time. Could this have created the problem? If not, what happened the first time, and are we going to have the same problem with the Norton Security?
Hi, Mantis. If you install Norton Internet Security or either of the 2 new products, unless you have a 3rd party firewall which you should uninstall, then Norton will take over your Windows firewall and your antivirus requirements.
You can check this after the install by going to the Action Center via your notofication tray and under Security, you can click on the firewall and antispyware options and you will see that Norton is handling both.
You should never have two firewalls running, OR two real time antivirus programs. This will always cause issues.
We had already been using the Norton Antivirus and upgraded to the Norton Internet Security. With the original Norton Internet Security we were only running one firewall and it was the Windows firewall. We got shut out completely to where we couldn't get into the computer. After we used the recovery discs we used the Norton Antivirus by itself and never had an issue again. What we're asking, is the new Norton Security going to give us the same problem as the old Norton Security? We were happy with the Antivirus. We don't want to get locked out of our computer again.
Hi, Mantis. You should be able to overinstall Norton Security over Norton Antivirus but if you want a clean install, try removing NAV via Control Panel/Programs and Features, rebooting and then using the Norton Removal Tool for a cleaner uninstall.
Follow the instructions, and then you can do a clean install of Norton Security.
Once installed, run Live Update until no more are found to bring you completely up to date, and reboot again.
