Re: Tune Up Utilities 2009 tries to delete NIS 2009 registry keys

Just to clarify, you mean the product listed here?

http://www.tune-up.com/products/tuneup-utilities

If so, have you tried contacting them about this? Just a few questions; any additional info is appreciated. Thanks!

That's very strange. I have both installed as well but never had any problem at all.

Are you using a legal version?

Re: Tune Up Utilities 2009 tries to delete NIS 2009 registry keys

Doesn't Tune Up Utilities 2009 tell you why it wants to delete the registry data?  If the utility does not come up with a better reason than the key is empty, get rid of it.  Or at least tell it that Norton / Symantec data is to be ignored (most cleaners have this 'exception list' capability built in now a days).

I have run the test and posting the screenshot here..see it your self..and yes tony this is the same product you are telling.as far as Norton tamper protection is on this tune utilities can't delete Norton Keys. Norton prevents it..great tamper protection here..i have not contacted them.there is no email support so that i can tell them full details like this..

Re: Tune Up Utilities 2009 tries to delete NIS 2009 registry keys

Deleting those keys would not improve Norton's performance and may actually hinder it.  TUU2009 may like to think that everybody should be out in the open but there may be reasons for the non existing value now but could be needed as a place holder later in a process that is not active right now.  How does TUU or you know that this key is part of the coded sequence to keep your license active?  Or keep SONAR from deleting half of the operating processes?

I guess that's OK; you can always reinstall the software later.

sorry for taking this site to host my pictures.i was using firefox adblock plus that is why i could not see any popups or porn web site ads..i opened it in Internet explorer and saw..in future i will definitely  be careful..once again sorry...and as far as tune up deleting issue is considered, if we have Norton tamper protection on, tune up cannot do any harm..but i will soon bring this thing in tune up sleepy eyes...

If the entries listed above are correct, your installation is broken. Check your system, do you have the referenced file -- C:\Program Files (x86)\Norton Internet Security\Engine\16.5.0.135\NavShExt.dll? Using RegEdit, is the (Default) value for HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\TypeLib\{957191F2-F78B-41C6-87D6-87D562930EA9}\1.0\HELPDIR actually empty? The file should exist and the default value for the registry key should be something like "C:\Program Files (x86)\Norton Internet Security\Engine\16.5.0.135".

Re: Tune Up Utilities 2009 tries to delete NIS 2009 registry keys

Dear reese my security software is working fine..and it is tune up utilities that wants to delete the registry keys..if tamper protection is on tune up is not able to delete the keys..that's good thing am also guessing my other registry cleaner may have deleted or wants to delete.. but i think tune up may be the culprit

For this sake i uninstalled NIS 2009 and installed on my vista x64 and the problem remains..tune up shows these keys..

well i have contacted tune and they will give me the reason and they will rectify this problem...

Re: Tune Up Utilities 2009 tries to delete NIS 2009 registry keys

silverhawk, thanks for following up. If Tune Up is correctly detecting that the referenced file is missing and that the referenced value is empty, you probably aren't likely to notice that NIS is broken. The fact that Tune Up reports this problem on two systems makes it seem unlikely that you have a broken installation though and the problem probably is in Tune Up.
