Can't connect to internet after Windows 10 upgrade

I upgraded my laptop to Windows 10 from Windows 7. When I open a browser, I can't access the internet. My network connections show that I am connected via Ethernet (plus I have a wireless connection). When Windows runs network diagnostics, it's showing a compatibility issue with Norton Internet Security.

Suggestions?

Re: Can't connect to internet after Windows 10 upgrade

Try disabling Smart Firewall to see if that makes a difference. Right click on the Norton icon in the system tray and click Disable Smart Firewall. Choose 15 minutes and test. If the options are greyed out you will need to sign into a Windows admin account.

If that does not help, try disabling Auto Protect.

Things happen. Export/Backup your Norton Password Manager data.

What version of Norton do you have installed and what is the version ID of it -- check Help/About where it is in the format nn.nn.nn.nnn where n is a number.

Re: Can't connect to internet after Windows 10 upgrade

I turned off Smart Firewall, which allowed me to access the Internet. However, when I turned it back on, I no longer had access. Norton Internet Security version 17.9.0.12. I tried to install a newer version, but it is requiring that I remove the older version, which I can't seem to do.

Thanks -- I'll let others advise you on how best to deal with this. Do you want to stay on Norton Internet Security or upgrade to the new generation of Norton Security which replace all three older versions?

Re: Can't connect to internet after Windows 10 upgrade

You need to have version 22.5.x.x to be compatible with Windows 10.

Try disabling the Smart Firewall again for 15 minutes. Then go to your Main Norton Internet Security screen and click on Support - New Version Check. That should take you to the Norton Update Center. Follow the directions and you should get an upgrade to the 22.5 version. The install process should automatically remove the older version and replace it with the new.

After installation of the new version, be sure you run LiveUpdate manually a few times, rebooting as necessary, until no updates are available.
