unable to fully remove Norton Mobile from Android Phone

I have recently installed Norton Security Deluxe on two PCs. I am now trying to install on to my Sony Xperia mobile and have sent myself the required email, clicked on "Install" and Google Play Store comes up and states that Norton Mobile is already installed. I had previously uninstalled Norton Mobile and it no longer appears in my APPS list. Security Deluxe will not install.

My account is showing just two seats being used.

How do I remove whatever is causing the Phone to appear as if Norton Mobile is still present?

Re: unable to fully remove Norton Mobile from Android Phone

Have you restarted your phone?

If that does not help, from your PC, try logging into play.google.com. Then look for your installed apps, and remove Norton Mobile Security. Then send yourself another email from your Norton Account and try the install again.

Things happen. Export/Backup your Norton Password Manager data.

Re: unable to fully remove Norton Mobile from Android Phone

Thank you PeterWeb for the suggestions. Yes, I did several restarts after trying various things. I didn't think to go to Installed Apps on Google Play. However, I have now removed Norton Mobile from my Google Play account and also removed the Sony mobile from my Norton Account, to no avail. There is nothing to indicate that Norton Mobile is still present on the phone, except that it appears onscreen (with the "Installed" green box) as soon as I try to install Norton Security from the email. My old Norton Mobile licence expires in a couple of days but I'm not sure if this will have any impact on the problem. Any other thoughts you have would be very welcome.

Re: unable to fully remove Norton Mobile from Android Phone

Hello PeterWeb, I believe I have solved the above problem. I used a "Sony PC Companion" piece of s/w to explore the memory of my Sony mobile. It revealed three folders associated with Norton.

1 .norton which contained two files; .backup.deviceguid and .uuid.

2 .symantec_persisted containing mid.dat and a sub-folder, com.symantec.mobilesecurity which house file license.dat.

3 .Symantec_update_temp with an empty sub-folder com.symantec.mobilesecurity

I have removed all three to my PC (in case I experience trouble) and I have now been able to install Norton on my Sony mobile.

I appreciate your help and would welcome any comments concerning the removal of these three folders and their contents. All appears to be working as it should.

I'm not sure what those folders do, but you seem to have found the issue. I usually suggest deleting app cache and app data before uninstalling NMS. I would have thought that uninstalling an app would have removed everything, but in your case it did not.

Did those folders show up again after the reinstall?

Yes, Folders 2 and 3 reappeared with the new installation and with the same contents (and lack of in 3).

No sign of the .norton (No. 1).

If you run the contact backup, you may see folder number 1 again.
