How do I identify my registered devices?

I just got a notice that my auto renewal has been billed. I have Norton 360 loaded on the 5 PC my wife and I currently use. But, I checked online and found Norton shows10 devices registered. I guess I've been very sloppy and haven't correctly removed old devices, some of which I could not uninstall Norton since they simply died and were tossed. The online list does not identify the PC's by the name I have set up for them in Windows - control panel - system. Norton simply numbers them. How can I identify which ones listed online are the 5 we have? Once I do that, I can figure out which ones shown on line no longer use any Norton products and can be removed. Apparently, over the years I have purchased 2 product keys and believe I can now eliminate one.

Starting at the end -- if you rename the partition/drive that the Operating System being protected by Norton is located in so that that identifies which computer it is -- eg Ken notebook or Toshiba Presario -- then when Norton is installed it should pick up that name to identify in your Norton Account to show which installation is which.

Given what you have now, sometimes you can work out which computer is which by the date of installation which I think you find in your Norton Account.

You might also check with Norton's OnLine Support via the CHAT route:

Please let us know how you get on ....

Re: How do I identify my registered devices?

In the devices list, you should also see a last online entry for the devices. You could start by deleting the 5 oldest devices, then check to make sure all your computers are  still protected.

Things happen. Export/Backup your Norton Password Manager data.

Re: How do I identify my registered devices?

Peterweb -

Funny you should mention last online. Before I read your post (or huwyngr's) I went to each of the five machines and changed the name in Windows hoping it would impact the name Symantec had. After restarting each PC, I ran Norton update on each machine. I then went back online and noted that each device had a last used time that seemed to coincide with what I had done. I deleted two that had no time data. When I went back to my main desktop, that was on continuously, I discovered it was no longer protected by Norton and I had to reload the product key. So, apparently the last online information is not very accurate - unless it somehow does not get updated until that device is powered down. Could that really happen? Could Norton get some kind of signal when a PC is turned off? That's kind of scary.

Please see Krusty13's post in regards to this topic:

<EDIT>  Also FWIW, Norton Management accurately reports my Vista Laptop with NSBU installed was last on line 5 days ago!  Remember Remote Management needs to be enabled in order to report status of systems.

yank - Thank you so much for the link. Following the simple steps allowed me to see exactly how Norton identifies my devices.
