NORTON RIPOFF!!

I HAVE BEEN A CUSTOMER OF NORTON FOR MANY YEARS. I RENEW MY SUBSCRIPTION AT THE END OF AUGUST. IN APRIL 2015 NORTON STARTED SENDING ME MESSAGES THAT MY SUBSCRIPTION WOULD EXPIRE IN MAY. I AM DISABLED WITH MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS ( M.S. ) AND BECAUSE MY SPEECH IS AFFECTED, COULD NOT CONTACT NORTON ON THE PHONE. I SENT A NUMBER OF MESSAGES BOTH THROUGH THE NORTON WEBSITE & BY EMAIL. I GOT NO RESPONSE. IN MAY 2015, NORTON CANCELLED MY SUBSCIPTION AND LEFT ME WITHOUT ANY PROTECTION. 

I AS FORCED TO MAKE A 50 MILE ROUND TRIP TO OBTAIN ANOTHER COPY OF NORTON INTERNET SECURITY. THIS WAS INSTALLED & THEN IN AUGUST 2015, THE SAME THING HAPPENED & I ONCE AGAIN HAD TO BUY A NEW SUBSCRIPTION. I HAVE NOW STARTED TO GET THE MESSAGES SAYING THAT MY SUBSCRIPTION WILL EXPIRE IN MAY THIS YEAR. I HAVE A COPY OF THE BILL DATED AUGUST 2015 FROM PC WORLD WHERE I BOUGHT THE NORTON PRODUCT SO THERE IS NO WAY IT SHOULD RUN OUT 9 MONTHS LATER. I CAN'T PHONE NORTON BECAUSE OF MY SPEECH PROBLEM  SO I'VE TRIED SENDING MESSAGES BUT ONCE AGAIN, NO RESPONSE. 

CAN ANYONE TELL ME WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON? PLEASE EXCUSE ANY TYPING MISTAKES, MY HANDS ARE AFFECTED BY THE M.S.

When you open Norton, click "Help">"Subscription Status," how many days does the product say you have left on your subscription?

Other than using a phone to contact Norton, you can also have a chat with Norton. This Chat is done by computer with your computer. This is just some information if you have another issue and you want to contact Norton. Here is the link to use for it.

Thanks for the web chat link but it is impossible to make contact with it without providing a bona fide telephone number!

I do not hand out my telephone numbers so looks like I can't get any help advice from Norton.

Is this really the situation now with Norton support please?

So do what I do with marketing orientated websites and make up the phone number but with the right format and maybe a real area code......

I doubt if the system verifies it before allowing you to on-line CHAT and if it gets to a point where you agree with them that a call back is needed you can give them a correct number.....

Of course I can not state definites, but I doubt that Norton are actually trying to rip you off GeralltGymro, I do however sympathise and understand the incredible frustration you must feel. There are lots of us out here

. It is more likely that the Norton inept, unprofessional and numerical illiteracy of the accounting and administrative routiines  causes this sort of problem. The thread Re: Why did I get an alert in Spanish? and the posts in that thread Posted: October / November may cast some light on Norton Admin qualities.

However on much the same tack I received the attached "notices" from Norton - one telling me that my NIS subscription expires on 25 May 2016 - absolutely correct. The other tells me that my Online Protection will Continue as my credit card will be charged on 10th May 2016. Allow 24 hours for processing and Norton will have 14 days interest on my £69.99 - a miserly 0.1346p BUT the real problem is I think simply maladministration and lousy accounting controls.We are entitled to receive higher standards of internal check, expertise and levels of professionalism I think

I've also been ripped off by Norton and have to say they have the absolute worst customer service in the history of business.  Last year I bought a computer from someone who apparently had norton installed.  I have never purchased Norton as I use Avast.  When I installed new software for my business the Norton window kept popping up saying the software might not be secure.  I kept closing the window.   My computer got very slow.  Finally the friend I bought the computer from removed Norton...computer works fine now.

I don't know what up with the subscription stuff but I know people who have had a LOT of issues with getting charged without notice for a subscription they forgot they ever had.  Maybe Norton shouldn't "auto renew" anything and maybe someone needs to look into the issues with people who have paid for their subscription but don't get the product.

BOO Norton.  Really bad way to do business all the way around.

 My computer got very slow.  Finally the friend I bought the computer from removed Norton...computer works fine now.

Have a look at this list from a reputable source that gives links to the special tool each specific A/V program and how they tell people to use the tool before trying to install another A/V product.

You will find Norton has one too which you can get here by asking how to get it or by clicking on the link given in that list under N

If the previous owner just ran the normal Windows Uninstall routine, which is a specific script written by the original program source, then if you have any further problems please ask here since it indicates that some bits have been left behind, again as most software programs do if only to prevent improper use of trial versions.

Sorry you did not get here as soon as you had a problem ..... better luck with whatever you are using!

With all due respect.  How were you 'ripped off' by Norton. You never bought the product and were never charged for it.

If you had any problems it was because you did not remove the Norton product before installing Avast.

I think that we should actually be a little more careful with the emotive word rip-off. From my experience with Norton (which started with MS Dos 2.5, Norton Disc Doctor, Norton Undelete et al I have never thought that the technical products and expertise from Symantec (aka Norton) ever became a "Rip Off". As the world has become ever more devious and the attacks on our privacy more difficult to counter I beleive that Norton products are amongst the best out there. I for one trust their technical ability and suite of products to protect me.

However my participation in this thread was merely to highlight what I believed to be Accounting / Admin inefficiencies and sloppy admin routines.

  We are the customers and deserve to be treated with respect and consideration, By the same token we should treat Norton with respect and consideration - however frustrated we may be. Let's play nice out there to paraphrase Hill Street Blues.

I was charged.  Twice.  That is how I was ripped off.  When I tried to get a refund I was told I was lying, I was told I received an email which i never received AND when I finally got through to a "supervisor" who sent an email saying I would be refunded my money they hung up on me.  One hour later, after I received the email about being refunded I received another email stating I was being charged.

Please read my posted reply to another post.  I was treated very poorly when I was trying to find out why I had been charged for a product that I was not using.  I've been charged twice.  I've been hung up on by "customer service agents" who tried to sell me products when I was trying to get a refund.  I've been called a "liar" by these same "customer service agents."  I've still not received the refund.  At this point it does appear I've been ripped off, do you not agree?

My only recourse at this time is to file consumer complaints with my state's attorney general office and with my bank.  I have done both of these things.

All of this smacks of a complete lack of respect and consideration for their customers.  I tried to resolve the issue amicably when I first contacted Norton, I was treated worse than any company has ever treated me.  This is unacceptable.

From this statement in your post above, there is no indication that you had paid anything. We do not always cross reference all posts by a user to see what other issues they have had. We can only work from the information provided.

For future reference, if you are posting about a similar issue you have posted about elsewhere, you can include a link to that other thread. That may eliminate any confusion, or misunderstandings.

Truly I feel that customer service desks are becoming so understaffed and badly trained that one has little hope of a fast and understanding solution. If your problem does not have one of the pre-printed stock responses your chances of a prompt solution are very low

UNLESS

You take the trouble to record your conversation - telling your customer service helper  that "in the interests of efficiency and accurate record keeping this call is being recorded. Try if possible to get the full name of your customer service engineer (I shall refer to him/her by the acronym CSE) You need more than "good morning how can I help you you are speaking to skeklkgjm hg - at this point you must ask for the name again - when you get the reply  "you are speaking to skeklkgjm hg" - you need to ask the CSE to spell his/her name.

Also Useful are questions / requests as follows (BUT keep your voice level, do not shout and above all, do not lose your temper) "Do you understand what my problem is....Yes sir....well would you be kind enough to repeat to me  what you understand the problem to be" If the answer is miles away from your problem - ask to speak to "your Manager" / Supervisor etc

Ask "who is your Manager" / Supervisor etc" Remind the CSE that the call is being recorded.

Plan your call in advance, Questions such as "What is it about "I have been charged twice that you don't understand?

This is an accounts query that you are incapable of understanding so please transfer me to your Accounts department."

Always have the precise reference numbers of invoice / credit note / expiry dates etc to hand.

.....and so on.

If you think I am insulting you by this response - I am truly sorry, I am trying to help you get through the "wall of death" and I hope this response does exactly that.
