For the 3rd time this year I have received an email from Norton Security a 3rd party telling me that my subscription expired.

For the 3rd time this year I have received an email from Norton Security a 3rd party telling me that my subscription expired. This time on 5/3. My subscription is good until July 2016. The last time this happened LAST WEEK I spent almost 90 minutes in a chat with Norton support. They were no help at all. Now my Live Update and other features aren't working. Why does some 3rd party have the power to mess with my account? How the hell do I solve this? I want to speak to an American human being that I can understand that knows how to fix this! Is that too much to ask? Is anyone else experiencing this same issue?  Is there a phone number that I can call Norton directly?

Thanks for any help

Can you please post here the chat website address you were in contact with? Thanks.

3rd parities do not have access to your account information. What you are probably getting are scam emails to try to get you to 'renew' your product.

What features are not working?

How many days remaining are showing on the main Norton Screen?

Things happen. Export/Backup your Norton Password Manager data.

Neither Security, Scans or Live Update are working. All it says is subscription: Active

What OS are you using? If Win 8 or 10, have you disabled the Fast Startup feature?

If you use Windows 8/8.1 or 10, there can be an issue with the Fast Start feature.. See more information here.

It sounds like you may have received a phishing email, the purpose of which would have been to have you disclose your credit card information, most likely.  Did you access Norton support on your own (good), or did you click a link in the email (bad)?  When you spoke to Norton chat, did they confirm that your subscription was still good until July?  That is about all they should have been able to tell you, as they have no way of dealing directly with spam or phishing emails.  Why did the chat take 90 minutes?  At any time prior to the issues you are seeing with your product, did you allow anyone to access your computer remotely (which would almost certainly be unnecessary just to confirm a subscription)?

Is this email that I received from Norton legitimate?

That is not Norton Customers Support chat - the correct link is www.norton.com/chat as suggested by bjm_

The important thing is that norton.com takes you to the real Norton, and you can access chat from that link.  One of the concerns about emails like this is that they can direct you to fake sites that look legitimate and the links contained in an email may say one thing and actually go someplace else.

I know that I was definitely speaking to the real Norton. I went directly to the site. I am aware of scams and Norton did verify that my account didn't expire until July. They did try to access my computer to try and figure out why Live Update didn't work. The program they sent me to connect to my computer didn't work. They had no explanation for it. The 1st time it happened they accessed my computer and fixed the issue.

Here's the email I got telling me my account was up. Here's an email I got from Norton just this morning.

Hello Joe

Only the email you got this morning is showing up. The other email about your Account might have been removed or it didn't work.

Thanks.
