Norton icon on bottom tool bar has changed / Redirection to another web address.

My Norton icon on the bottom tool bar has changed and now looks like the icon for a Word document:

It's the one with the white tick on a green circle.

You'll see that this snip includes a snip of a screen print showing my hidden icons and the normal Norton icon is also there, for some reason. (Perhaps it was there before - I wouldn't like to say.)

I have v22.7.0.76 and had downloaded the new version of it at the end of June. When I ran Live Update just now it showed that I hadn't done stage 2 at that time, to apply the patch so I applied it and restarted. I then ran Live Update again per Tony Weiss's notes and it installed the fix. So I am now up-to-date. Restarted again but the unusual icon is still there? Any thoughts on what I should do, please?

PS When I went to log out of here before restarting, I got this redirection message:

I hit 'No' as I've never seen this before nor can I find any reference to it. I presume it's normal but would appreciate some TLC please. Thanks

Re: Norton icon on bottom tool bar has changed / Redirection to another web address.

That is not a Norton Icon, but it could be something to do with the Backup overlays. Do you have NS with Backup?

Either way, I would try hovering your cursor over that icon and see if you can see what web site it is trying to take you to.

Things happen. Export/Backup your Norton Password Manager data.

Hello peterweb. I should have mentioned in my initial post that at first on power-up the icon has no 'green circle/white tick - it's blank and that's what reminded me of the (old) Word icon. I'd hovered over that icon and it shows 'Norton Internet Security' per below snip.

When I click it and open it up. the 'green circle/white tick' is added to it and when I hover over that, it shows a reduced screen shot of my NIS screen:

I've not heard before of NS with Backup - a search here told me nothing, neither did the Norton Home Products page. In fact it's not mentioned at the bottom of this page. I've always had NIS - the standard version.

Thanks.

I've not heard before of NS with Backup - a search here told me nothing, neither did the Norton Home Products page. In fact it's not mentioned at the bottom of this page. I've always had NIS - the standard version.

Norton Security with Backup replaced the previous Norton 360 around September 2014 and a few months ago also the new name/s have been changed.

Norton Security with Backup is now called Norton Security Premium. For more information please see Norton Security Compared to Old Norton Products

Re: Norton icon on bottom tool bar has changed / Redirection to another web address.

Thank you Rainbow_2. I was just about to have a rant along the lines of "my current NIS - 3 licences - is being replaced by Norton Security Standard for one device or Norton Security DeLuxe for 5 devices = smart marketing =  will cost me, if I stay."

To ill in gaps I needed to know what my renewal subscription would be in December so I went to My Account>Renew Now. And there I found that those wonderful folk at Norton have some loyalty bonuses. This meant that I could renew and upgrade now through to Dec 2017 with added benefits such as 'up to 10 devices'.

So all is well - that strange icon has gone, and the old familiar icon is there in its place. 'And another problem bites the dust.' Thanks both for your interest and help. Just two parting comments:

(1) Why oh why doesn't Norton shout from the rooftops that existing customers should ignore what appears in the Norton promos (eg "up to five devices"), that there is a customer loyalty reward in place? Had I not had the icon problem I probably would have been inclined to go somewhere else in December when I read the comparisons etc bumph.

(2) Just after installation of Norton Security Standard completed successfully, this appeared:

Does the 'Installation Complete' "override" the Application Error" message i.e. there was a problem but it was then resolved? From what I've found, this error usually comes from mixing up 32bit environment with 64bit one. Is there any way I can check if the error still exists? Or should I create a new thread?

Perhaps you could post the above in Forum Feedback ....

You could so that it would have more visibility.

Re: Norton icon on bottom tool bar has changed / Redirection to another web address.

Hi Taff

Windows 10 eh?

Doesn't Windows 10 show on the task bar -- not the system tray at the right corner if Windows 10 still does that? -- a reduced/tiny image of any screen that is open but minimized?

If so what looks like a word document is an image of a screen that is open but not up on the full display.

I'm not in Win10 at present so I can't check what it does with an info screen from eg Norton.

Just a maybe ....

Pity about the World Cup but still WOW WALES!

Re: Norton icon on bottom tool bar has changed / Redirection to another web address.

Hi Huw. First the important bit - flattery will get you everywhere! Earlier, we'd had had two England exits from Europe (Brexit and the footie) and then I had rather a large hangover - but well worth it! It was suggested to David Cameron recently that perhaps he should apply for the England team manager job!

Back to Norton, you're right of course about Win10 and I somehow managed to grab a screen print of both of the images, in one of my snips above. Problem now resolved by my upgrade of NIS to "Norton Security with Back-up", the enhanced version (for existing Norton customers) of the Standard version. So I'm a happy bunny on all fronts at the moment - even sunshine when I play crown green bowls!

Both done, Rainbow_2. Thanks.

And to complete a successful week to date so far, even my Win10 Windows Updates appear to have wreaked no havoc!

Re: Norton icon on bottom tool bar has changed / Redirection to another web address.

Hi Taff

Glad I was right about that image -- no of course about it!

I feel sorry for my son Martin and his family -- still he has dual nationality (French and British since his mother was French when we married) and he could move to France! To late for him to add US to the mix since he would have had to opt for that when he was much younger!

It seems that with PCs and the weekend approaching something always comes back to bite you in the bottom:

LOL Huw. I was quite restrained in what I said but have used the 'notify a moderator' to ask why Norton can't get their act together - it's so unprofessional imho of course!

FYI The notify a moderator link is just for forum related issues. It will not generate messages to be sent to Norton offices.
