Auto Disc Scan starting when computer is in use

I have Norton AV and Security set to Automatic scanning, which is supposed to only kick in when the computer isn't in use. As of two weeks ago... not so much. I get up in the morning and start checking my email it starts a scan. Middle of the day when I start either an intensive program or a system-heavy game, it starts a scan. I'm watching a movie at night? Starts a scan. I'd change it to manual schedule but there's no option for daily, only weekly or monthly. If you have a solution for this, I'm all ears. Thank you!

Re: Auto Disc Scan starting when computer is in use

Hello

I had  to remove and reinstall my NSBU a week ago. Before I did that, my weekly full scan would work like clockwork every  week. Since I reinstalled it, it hasn't run my automatic full system scan. It has missed it twice so far in a row.. I have run a manual full scanner, so scanning works and the quick scans run ok automatically.

Re: Auto Disc Scan starting when computer is in use

Hello KirkDD

This topic was about persistent "Disk Optimize" that would start when "Idle" - "no key-press or mouse movement" even if the computer was in use doing a long download or playing a dvd/movie....

If interrupted, later onit would take over the system at will, try-fail-try again..sort of like your issue...https://community.norton.com/en/comment/6986531#comment-6986531 I posted one snip, I managed a full set for this topic.

A few Lines down was the configuration setting for scans, Here's a set of snip to the part that may help you.

The window is titled Configuration but it's more like history of background task "if run idle-yes/no" "when & how long" & "status"

The orange box is clickable and will start the task and abort it. A manual start and stop seemed to solve my problem, some sort of reset. it might solve yours.

Note to Floplot -The last Full System Scan I ran takes Hours, while I do other chores and check back hourly to see if it's done and I still have a time on my dial-up session if I have to pause, disconnect & start a fresh 4 hour max. session. I checked History afterward, AN IDLE TIME "Quick Scan" ran WHILE the Full Scan was IN PROGRESS, NSBU One dot 32 version. Does that happen with your system also?? Do you think it deserves its own topic??

KirkDD -- The WYSIWYG Forum tool-bar with the INSERT image button only shows up when I feels like it - another topic, It showed up in your PM so I used it to upload the snips View the "source-tagging code, then transfer it to this topic PM me if this helped or not.

Re: Auto Disc Scan starting when computer is in use

Hello

I rescheduled my weekly fully system scan for a different night and it ran, but not at the time I scheduled it. I scheduled for night time while I was sleeping. It didn't run until the next morning. I have again rescheduled it back to my usual time. Not only that, but it also did a full tune-up which I didn't have scheduled. I usually have 1 part of the Tune-up checked .

I think it happened once to my computer when the idle quick scan happened during my scheduled full system scan. The new antivirus definitions came down and the computer was idle, so it ran. I only knew because of what I had seen in the logs.

Thanks.
