Norton Keeps Quarantining Excluded Program

Hello.  I am currently using Auslogics Disk Defragmenter as it does a very quick and thorough job.

Unfortunately, Norton keeps placing the program in quarantine even though I repeatedly select "Restore" and "Exclude from Scans."

My Auslogics program is not a virus and it is not malware - no additional programs have ever been downloaded without my consent.  I've been using it for three months - but I have to keep restoring it from quarantine.

Thanks for reading!  Any help would be appreciated!

Re: Norton Keeps Quarantining Excluded Program

Same issue for me. Several days ago, Norton Internet Security has started claiming that sh3.exe (Silent Hunter 3 - A submarine game originally developed by Ubisoft) contains a virus. I have restored and excluded this file but it keeps on being detected and quarantined.

Now, it could be that this file is mistakenly being identified as a virus because it has been "modified" to update the graphics and scenarios by the team at "Living Silent Hunter" ... I am willing to exclude this file as I have had it for years and have not had any security issues with it.

The question remains .... Why is the exclusion setting I have chosen not working?

Re: Norton Keeps Quarantining Excluded Program

While the application can be excluded, the processes might not. As BJM mentioned, excluding certain processes, services and files might prevent Nortons activation. Also, make sure you restart your PC after exclusions. For some reason, it doesn't exclude immediately without a restart. Happens only sometimes and on complicated file processes.

I have restored and excluded this file but it keeps on being detected and quarantined.

Restore & exclude this file: is not the same as adding item(s) to Exclude from Auto-Protect nor the same as Exclude from All Detections.

For information regarding event > from Norton pop-up > More Details > Copy to Clipboard and/or from Norton history > More Options > Copy to Clipboard > paste.

For second opinion choose File &/or Search hash at VirusTotal.

Thanks bjm,

It looks like you are on the money. There were no entries in the Exclude from Auto-Protect. I have now added the file into the list of those exclusions. I think that will do the trick and will advise after a while if it did indeed work.

Many thanks.

Confirming that adding the files to the auto protect exclusion list has solved the problem.

Thanks again :)

Wow!  I had all but given up (I admit I am not too much of a techie) but lucky_phil's posts encouraged me to re-examine in depth (by trying several scenarios listed) bjm's previous posted reply.  I added the quarantined files to the auto protect exclusion and it too, solved the problem for me.  Thanks everyone!  Kudos to all!  :-)

By the way, should I just stick with Windoze's Disk Optimizer or use a 'better' third party app?  Seriously, when I analyze my C: drive using Defraggler or Auslogics I get something like 23% fragmented but Windows' Optimizer says 1%.  Who to believe?  What do you suggest?  I don't want to put extra wear and tear on my drive.  Or should this question be asked somewhere else?  :-O

Windows Disk Defragmentor and Storage Optimizer.
