seems linked with AMD .. Driver provider AMD; driver date 15/08/2016 ; Driver version 16.40.0.0.

DOn't know if anyone can shed some light on this?

However I have a steelseries usb soundcard which tried to update drivers for . I D/L from steel series homepage bot the installation was blocked by Norton stating :

File is SteelSeries_usb_Soundcard_1.0.4 ...and obviously being an old file seemed to have a large numbers of d/l's

Has this beeen flagged because it's not been used by the community for a long time OR is there a real threat?

Re: Steelseries usb soundcard drivers blocked

aRighT1 What version Norton product are you using? The latest version is 22.10.0.85. Run live updates manually and see if that takes care of a missing update. Just downloaded the drivers for Windows 7 and above from the Steel website. Norton download insight reports this setup.exe has a GOOD reputation. No certificate invalidations shown. Try excluding the setup from scans within your Norton dashboard under "Items to exclude from auto-protect, sonar and download intelligence, and re-running. IF you trust this file, as I stated I didn't get any warnings. When you initially downloaded you should have received the same notification as I.

Cheers

Re: Steelseries usb soundcard drivers blocked

Thanks for the reply SoulAsylum...I ham running the latest NIS as you state. The file (zipped) sems fine. It is only during installation that it quarantines cmeauvist64.exe stating that:

Category: Resolved Security Risks
Date & Time,Risk,Activity,Status,Recommended Action,Path - Filename
30/07/2017 16:27:36,Medium,cmeauvist64.exe (WS.Reputation.1) detected by Download Insight,Quarantined,Resolved - No Action Required,"c:\users\"""""\appdata\local\temp\temp1_steelseries_usb_soundcard_1.0.4(2).zip\steelseries_usb_soundcard_1.0.4\win8\program\cmeauvist64.exe"

Category: Quarantine

_____________

May the file is just old (seems vista) ? It's not a big deal ..just thought it strange as it was from Steelseries homesite. As to whether or not I trust this file...I leave that up to Norton :-)

Re: Steelseries usb soundcard drivers blocked

Understand perfectly what you are conveying. The version I downloaded is a newer version than yours. The version quarantined is 1.0.4 , my download was 3.10.95.  https://steelseries.com/downloads Have you tried getting newer drivers from this site or some other site? I cannot see your version for download.

If you need the drivers and feel there is a false positive you can submit the file(s) here for Norton to review.

Re: Steelseries usb soundcard drivers blocked

To add to SoulAsylum's suggestion about drivers makes sure you are downloading only from official and trusted sources, instead of third party vendors. As 3rd party providers do not update the software to the latest version as fast as they need to and additionally bundle other random software. If you are downloading from third party providers, the drivers can also be malicious.

Re: Steelseries usb soundcard drivers blocked

Josh Ross The official site link https://steelseries.com/downloads was provided in my previous post. The older drivers he has cannot be found. Thanks for your insight.

Re: Steelseries usb soundcard drivers blocked

FWIW ~ https://community.norton.com/en/forums/clarification-wsreputation1-detection

Files reported as WS.Reputation.1 may not necessarily be malicious, and may be a false positive detection. Should you be uncertain as to whether a file has been reported correctly, submit the file to https://www.virustotal.com/en/ to be scanned with multiple antivirus engines.

If you believe a file has been mistakenly detected by WS.Reputation.1, you can submit a dispute at https://submit.symantec.com/false_positive/.
