Problem with Norton Scan

I downloaded an update to an application I have been running for years. After the download, Auto Scan flagged it and removed it as a threat, but Scan on Demand says there is no threat. Why the discrepancy? I would like to update the application but can't. I uploaded a screen shot just before the deletion. As you can see the On Demand says No Threats, bit in the lower right corner, the Auto Scan says it's not safe and removed the file.

Re: Problem with Norton Scan

Maybe, download file is zip'd wrapper.  Maybe, upon file launch (unpack wrapper) AutoProtect flags executable.

For second opinion choose File &/or Search hash at VirusTotal .

for example, checksum hash is not the same

Download Insight protects your computer against any unsafe file that you may run or execute after you download it using a supported browser. By default, the Download Intelligence option is turned on. In this case, Download Insight notifies you about the reputation levels of any executable file that you download. The reputation details that Download Insight provides indicate whether the downloaded file is safe to install.

Container files such as Zip files are scanned by AutoProtect but only as raw files. The individual files embedded within container files are not scanned by AutoProtect. If you try to extract the files and run them, however, AutoProtect will detect them. Manual scans will scan within container files if the product is configured to do so.

I note that your on demand scan scanned zero files. I think autoprotect took care of the file before you could start your on demand scan. (interacting with the file enough could cause autoprotect to scan the file first. Examples of interaction: downloading the file, right clicking on the file)

Re: Problem with Norton Scan

Thanks for the reply. I redownloaded the application, did an On Demand Scan on the zip file and then on the extracted file and they both passed without incident. Don't know what caused the issue, but I'm not going to lose sleep over it.
