Extremely High CPU Usage Norton 360

My copy of Norton 360 downloaded through my Xfinity membership is constantly running at around 70% to 85 % of CPU usage according to my Windows 7 status monitor while scanning.  I recently reviewed other threads and uninstalled Norton 360 using the uninstaller and then let the same uninstaller reinstall the program.

During normal non-scan usage Norton 360 seems to run at a constant 20-24% of CPU usage.

This seems to be the cause of my massive computer slowdown, and it commenced in the last few months.

I'm running out of ideas on how to fix this save for scrapping Norton and going with a competitor.  Anyone else run into this?

My specs are Windows 7 Professional SP1

INtel Core i5-2500k

8gb ram

64 bit

Thank you in advance for any advice save for uninstalling or reinstalling.

Re: Extremely High CPU Usage Norton 360

Hi orrenfoster,

Just curious if you have installed any other security type programs n the last few months that may be running in real time and bumping heads with Norton?  If you have you may try uninstalling them (leaving Norton running) and see if there is any improvement.
