WS.Reputation.1 issue with downloading an EPSON Scan Driver

A brief history first ...

I have downloaded & installed this particular Epson Scan Driver from the Epson Australia website twice before without problems - in May 2016 (my Laptop OS was Windows 8.1), and Oct 2016 (Windows 10, for some reason the Epson Scan Driver disappeared during the Windows 10 upgrade). During a recent major OS upgrade to Windows 10 V1703, the Epson Scan Driver once again disappeared. But this time when I try to download the Epson Scan Driver from the Epson Australia website, Norton (360 Premier) quarantines the File with a WS.Reputation.1. Also, if I try to install the App File (NX210_WW_WIN_3760_41) which I still have from the previous 2 Downloads, Norton blocks it also with a WS.Reputation.1.

After reading Norton's information which explains WS.Reputation.1, I tried to submit a "Report a Suspected Erroneous Detection (False Positive)" form to Norton. But after several hours of trying different ways, I was ultimately unable to submit the form. It stopped me for 2 reasons (1) if I supplied a "Direct Download URL", it claimed that the URL did not return a file in response. (2) if I tried to "Upload a file" which was the App File from my 2 previous Downloads, I was unable to do the Upload because Norton blocked me from opening the file as part of the Upload process.

I am now at the (very frustrated) stage of not wanting to waste any more time trying to submit the "False Positive" form to Norton, but instead simply provide details of my WS.Reputation.1 issue to the appropriate Norton technical team so that they can investigate whether this is a genuine Risk or a False Positive. The details are provided below - they are brief and very straightforward. I just need to find out how I can get these details through to the correct Norton technical team.

I am hoping that a Norton employee will pick up this Forum Thread, and help direct it to the appropriate Norton technical team. But I am also happy for any comments or advice from other Norton Community users.

Click 'Accept' to do the Download.

PLEASE NOTE :

I would like the Norton technical team to investigate why this Download is being treated as a WS.Reputation.1, and to confirm whether it is a genuine Risk or a False Positive.

If it is a genuine Risk, then I need to understand some specifics on why, rather than the very broad generalised explanation "Threat Type : Insight Network Threat. There are many indications that this File is untrustworthy and therefore not safe".

If it is a False Positive, then I would like to know what corrective action Norton will take, and in what time frame.

Thanks, Phil.

Re: WS.Reputation.1 issue with downloading an EPSON Scan Driver

Hi BJM,

Many thanks for looking into this issue so quickly. I waited 24 hrs as you advised & then ran Live Update. I was then able to successfully Download NX210_WW_WIN_3760_41, and Install the Epson Scan Driver onto my Laptop. So I'm back in action once again.

Excellent result !! Thank you again for your speedy efforts.

Cheers, Phil.
