Disk usage 100% during Norton scans

Every so often, like every day, my PC gets slow for an amount of time, moving from application to application is slow, almost unusable.   When this happens under Task Manager one of the Norton security processes is taking a large amount of disk activity and the total % of disk usage goes up to 100%.

Is there a way that I can change the schedule of when these scans take place?   I need my PC working for me during the day, not working on Norton.

Re: Disk usage 100% during Norton scans

Try setting the Idle Time Out option in Norton settings to 1 minute.  This will help Norton start its background tasks sooner when you are not using your computer.  If the Idle Time Out is set too high and you do not frequently leave your computer idle for that extended amount of time, some priority Norton tasks that have not had a chance to run will eventually run anyway while you may be using the PC.

Re: Disk usage 100% during Norton scans

All: Idle time scanning can be disabled totally and most scans done on a set schedule as well. Of course automatic updates will remain automatic unless that too is disabled. Below are my settings, I never have any scans begin while I am performing work my machines. 10 minutes of no activity will start background tasks, any movement of the mouse or keystroke forces it to stop. I have scans and performance set to run at idle time only, other maintenance tasks set on a schedule.  Hope this helps.

Idle Time Quick Scans cannot be disabled, and will eventually run in non-idle time if prevented from doing so in idle time.

All: As previously posted via screenshots!! You can select and deselect tasks in this menu. Live updates will run by default unless disabled. I have never had a scan or background service run/start while I am using any of my systems with exception of live update.

Idle time out settings allows the delay when the system is inactive before triggering background checks.

All: As previously posted via screenshots!! You can select and deselect tasks in this menu.

The tasks in the Task Scheduling list are only a few of the optional tasks, such as file cleaning, and do not include the major background tasks that Norton is required to perform routinely.  And again, priority tasks like the Quick Scan will run in non-idle time if, after a predetermined number of days, it has not run while the computer was not in use.
