Edythe,

At the top right of the main window, click on Help & Support-->About. The installed NIS version is shown at the top. If you suspect that you do not have the latest version, return to the main window and run Live Update.

In Settings-->Computer Settings, under Updates,  Automatic Live Updates and Pulse Updates should both be turned on. This will ensure that you continue to have the latest definitions.

Re: HOW DO I LOCATE LATEST DEFINITIONS INSTALLED IN MY NISS 2009 PROGRAM?

Brubaker - That version is for the program itself.  I believe the OP wanted to know that they have the latest definitions.

Edythe ( and others) -

The latest version number loaded will be shown in the VirusDefs directory with a folder name similar to 20090813.022.  You can search your hard drive for the VirusDefs directory as it is in different locations based on the OS of the PC Norton is installed on.  You may have to set your system to show hidden files and folders to find this directory.  You can do this in EXplorer > Tools > Folder Options > View > HIdden files and folders > set this to Show hidden files and folders and then click Apply.

Or want you to make sure you have the latest virus definitions? If so, in the main windows under Computer, you see a line

"definition-Update": 1 Minute ago ( as an example)

But watch out:

- Live-Updates happens every 4 hours

- Pulse-Updates happens within minutes; and these updates are the more important ones (IMHO)

Re: HOW DO I LOCATE LATEST DEFINITIONS INSTALLED IN MY NISS 2009 PROGRAM?

Hi, Everyone,

Automatic LiveUpdate happens every eight hours; Pulse Updates happen every five-to-fifteen minutes.

The latest Virus Definitions are currently for Norton 2006 to Norton 2009 Products 20090814.004.

Windows X.P.: My Computer > C: Driver > Documents and Settings > All Users > Application Data > Norton > Left-hand-side Folder > Norton > Definitions > Virus Definitions.

I hope this helps!

Hi Edythe,

You can check that from Norton program interface itself. Please check the screenshot given below:

Hello - i think i confused you all ..i'm sorry !   :(

i meant to ask 'how' do i locate the most current a/v definition to make sure that's the one that was recently downloaded into my program ... i do know 'how' to locate the date it was installed on the ...  sorry about that ...or is it just a matter of seeing the date of install and 'assuming' it was the 'latest' via the current date when i open the program .... thanks again - Edythe

No just definitions, but what was updated. System Works gave a report of what was updated and installed. N360 just says it's updated. Details, we want details.

Are you using X.P. or Vista?

If you're using X.P., then the Virus Definitions' Date will either be the Date you Istalled on, or the day before, because Norton 2009 has Background Jobs which will make sure you always have the Latest Definitions for all Components of your Norton Internet Security.  Does this help?

Re: HOW DO I LOCATE LATEST DEFINITIONS INSTALLED IN MY NISS 2009 PROGRAM?

The easiest way is to open your NIS 2009 program. Then go to view network security maps. After that click details next to your computer name. Scroll down until you can see virus definition make a note of the date and check with this website: http://www.symantec.com/business/security_response/definitions.jsp Make sure you look under multiple daily update if you have 2008 or 2009 versions. If the dates match you are safe.
