Search box

This morning, when I open my Vault and want to look for something, I go to the Search box at the top.

As soon as I enter the 1st letter, the search box closes and goes back to the original window which is shown in the atch.

I then have to click on it to re-open my vault to do the search.

Why is it doing this?

Ideas of how to stop it welcomed.

Re: Search box

Hi boonsong,

Are you referring to the Search box at the top of the drop down from "Vault is Open"?

...or are you talking about the one in the Vault itself?

I have tried typing letters into the both search boxes using IE and I can no get them to close as you describe.  Are you using an ADMIN account?

Re: Search box

Thank you yank for your response.

Yes, I'm talking about the search box in the 2nd example.

After I open my vault, I want to search for a specific log-in entry. If I place the cursor on the search box and type the 1st letter of what I'm looking for, it goes back to the page shown on my original post. Also, if I place my cursor on the search box and wait about 2-3 seconds it does the same thing - don't have to type anything.

I am the administrator of my computer, so, not sure what you mean by ADMIN account. My Norton account is a regular acct that I've had for years. Never had this happen before. Not sure why it just started.

Not a big deal, just a real nuisance. Just have to do it two times to get my log-in info to come up.

If you need anything else, let me know.

Re: Search box

Are you using a local or online vault. There was some localized issues with the online vaults over the last couple of days. If you do use the cloud vault, try opening your Norton Security and clicking on your email address, and sign out of your Norton Account. Then restart your computer and try logging into your vault again. You will need to first sign into your Norton Account before entering your vault password again.

Re: Search box

Thanks peterweb.

My vault is a local vault. I did the sign-out, sign-in thing. I shut my computer down every night so that counts as rebooting.

I just tried it again, and it worked fine. Let this ride for a couple days and if nothing else happens I'll update this as solved.

Re: Search box

FYI  If you are using a local vault, my sign out suggestion does not apply.

I shut my computer down every night so that counts as rebooting.

Only if you do not use Win 8 or 10, or you have turned off the Windows 8 or 10 Fast Startup feature.

Re: Search box

Well, just "fired-up" my computer this morning and still doing the same thing. As soon as I place my cursor on the search box and left click, or just leave it there for a couple seconds, it goes back to the page shown on my 1st post.

Do you think uninstalling/re-installing  will fix this?

It's not a big problem, just a real nuisance.

Accepted Solution

Re: Search box

Sounds like something is off with your installation. Reinstalling will never hurt.    Use the Norton Removal and Reinstall Tool from   www.norton.com/nrnr

Be sure you read the before you begin section, and run LiveUpdate manually a few times, restarting as necessary, until no updates are available.

Re: Search box

Thanks peterweb.

I did the RnR and during the process was prompted to do the Power Eraser. During that process in the Root Kit Scan, 4 things came up - 3 registry items and efservice. Clicked on Fix.

Eventually I got it reinstalled and everything, so far, is working normal.

Thanks for the heads-up. Appre

Re: Search box

Well, I'm back with same problem.

Whenever I place my cursor on the Search box, after 1-2 seconds it goes back to the window shown in my original post and here. If I'm quick, as soon as I type a letter, it goes back to the 1st window shown here..

No idea why it is doing this.

boongsong,

It appears from your past posts that you are using WIN 10 and I do not see a verification that you in fact do have Fast Startup disabled as peterweb alluded to.  Please see the following for more info on Fast Startup:

 https://community.norton.com/en/forums/windows-881-or-10-and-fast-start-feature-0

If you turned it off before, you still need to check it as some of the Windows Updates turns it back on.

Thanks for your speedy reply.

No, I'm using Win 7 64. Don't believe I have Fast Startup enabled. Never heard of it.

Re: Search box

Thanks for your response - WIN 7 does not use Fast Startup - so that is a non player. Sorry I mentioned it, but I did see in one of your past posts that you were on WIN 10.

This is just for information as to what I have done to try to duplicate your situation:

I have now switched over to my WIN 7 system and since I have both a Local Vault and an Online Vault available, I have tried to use the Search Function on both vaults.  I have found that regardless of which vault I open, whether I left click or right click on the Search Block, as soon as I start typing I get the "auto-suggest".  Where log-ins starting with the letters I typed populate a drop down.  I have also tried this with Logins, Addresses, Wallet, Notes and Tags and the Search Block still produces the "auto-suggest" drop down.

Additional searching produced the following as I was thinking along the lines that perhaps a pass word manger being turned on in your browser could be causing some kind of conflict.  After great difficulty I found the following information on how to disable the IE password manger s it is on by default.  However if this has nay impact it seems more users would be having the same difficulty you are having - but it may be worth a shot.  I do have IE password manager disabled on my WIN 7 system.

From here:   (Towards bottom of page)

For Windows 7

Remember passwords for websites

When you visit a website that requires you to sign in to your account—like an email, banking, or shopping site—Internet Explorer will ask if you want your user name and password remembered. The next time you visit the site and start entering your user name, Internet Explorer will finish filling in your account info.

Password saving is on by default in Internet Explorer, but here's how to turn on or off password saving:

  1. In Internet Explorer, select the Tools button , and then select Internet options.
  2. On the Content tab, under AutoComplete, select Settings.
  3. Select the User names and passwords on forms check box, and then select OK.

To turn off password saving, clear the User names and passwords on forms check box.

Let us know if this helps any.

Re: Search box

Thanks yank for your reply.

Went to Settings under AutoComplete. User names and passwords was unchecked. So, I clicked them and OK.

Went to Norton and as soon as I opened the page with the Search, it reverted back. Went back to Settings and unchecked names and passwords. Still doing it.

Here's a possibility. I also have Chrome and it is set-up for autosave IDs and PWs. Is it possible that is the conflict?

I hadn't considered that because I've been using Chrome for over 2 years with no problems. This situation just came up a short time ago.

What do you think?

Re: Search box

I guess anything can conflict and there has been some discussion with Chrome extensions - perhaps a search of the forum will help in the mean time - I'll hope @peterweb comes back with his thoughts as he is much more aware of the Chrome extension situation than I am.

Re: Search box

When I first read this thread, I thought it might be something physical. ie. touchpad on a laptop, or maybe a mouse issue. What I run into sometimes on my laptop is that I may tap into a dialog box, then move the cursor out of the box so it does not interfere with my view of what I am typing. Then while I type, sometimes my hand will touch the touchpad and Windows senses I have tapped on it. That now takes the focus away from the entry box. But it does not explain why the ID Safe page disappears and the NS page comes up.
