An Error Occurred During Live Update

Yesterday that message popped up on my screen. I closed the box and continued what I was doing. Shortly after Norton closed. If I opened Norton again, it would close again within one minute. I got on Live Chat with Norton. She took control of my computer, deleted and reinstalled Norton. It seemed to work for a while, then it closed and would close within one minute every time I opened it.

For the second time I got on with live chat again. This time they replaced/updated my graphics card. Again Norton seemed to be working but again it closed after a few minutes. Every time I opened it it would close within one minute and I would have to keep opening Norton every time it closed.

Later on I got a window that said there was a problem with Norton and I needed to delete and reinstall Norton. I followed the instructions and removed and reinstalled Norton. This time the same thing happened. It worked fine for 22 minutes before Norton Shut down and I had to open it again and again every minute to 1-1/2 minutes.

This morning I turned the computer on and Norton shut itself down after 17 minutes and will not reopen. What is going on here? I've been using Norton since the late 1990's and nothing like this has ever happened.

Re: An Error Occurred During Live Update

In my OP I mentioned that Norton Chat replaced my graphics card.  They replaced the Drivers, not the card.  No way to edit my OP.

This morning I disconnected from the internet and was still able to watch some of a YouTube video until the buffer ran out.  However, I left the computer for a good half hour and came back to find that Norton was still running.  However, when I reconnected online, Norton closed after 50 seconds of running.  Really would appreciate some help here.

Re: An Error Occurred During Live Update

If you have Windows System Restore enabled on your PC, you could try reverting your system back to a date just prior to when this problem first appeared.  You will revert the graphics driver back doing this, but that does not seem to the the issue, anyway.  You might also have to reinstall Norton again after running the restore.  If you decide to go this route, be sure to turn off Norton Product Tamper Protection in the Norton settings first to avoid any Norton interference with the restore process.

Re: An Error Occurred During Live Update

The most common answer to my problem always seems to be uninstall and reinstall.  Did that twice.  Did not work.  Those types of solutions Never seem to work and I normally won’t do that.  However, after my last post and while reading thru some other threads that seemed to be similar to my problem, I read of proxies being a problem sometimes, so I went into Norton and took the proxy out.  That was 2 days ago and Norton has been running fine ever since.  Simple fix, But... I’ve had that proxy in Norton ever since that option became available in Norton.  In other words, I’ll bet I’ve had the proxy in Norton for more than 20 years.  Why would it all of a sudden become a problem in Norton????  Sounds like a bug to me.
