Norton Security high disk usage making computer unusable
I noticed a couple days ago that my computer was suddenly much slower in responding while I was using it. I used the Control Panel on my computer (Win 8.1) to "free up disk space" and "defragment drives", but no improvement was achieved. I didn't have a lot of time to look into it until today.
I again tried to free up space, then ran a defrag. Everything I tried to do took forever. Response time was measured in dozens of seconds, sometimes approaching minutes, for simple things like clicking a link, or clicking a field to enter text.
I finally opened Task Manager and I find that Norton Security is using the bulk of my disk resources, which are at 100%. This has been the case for over 30 minutes now.
This has happened to me before and I don't recall that I ever found a solution, it just improved at some point. Now it's back and I feel like I can't use my computer. I walked away for a while, hoping Norton would complete whatever task it's supposedly doing, but I've made and drank my coffee, and made and eaten a late breakfast, answered all my texts, and here I sit still waiting. Live Update has been run until no more updates are available.
