Just updated Windows 10 with April 1803 update. Now optimising doesn't work properly. It scans D: drive and then it skips on the two system reserved drives. It no longer scans E: or c: drives.
When I click on the PERFORMANCE Tab and select Optimize Disk, it will run as normal but quickly completes the task and only gives the following message four times System Reserve Drive: Unavailable. I am running Windows 10 latest Spring update. Any ideas on how to fix this?
All: I'm on Windows 10 Pro x 64 1803 / build 17134.1 my disk optimization takes under 20 second. IF your HD is in great shape and Norton has been doing a background run on a frequent basis this is normal. The previous version of W10 ran about the same under the same circumstances.
Cheers

I'm not trying to manually optimise the system drives - if that's what you think I'm doing. N360 used to optimise all my drives without and problems. Now, since the April update it checks D: then for some reason it now checks the system drives and since it can't access them it stops. It no longer even checks the others drives.
This is the way it worked before. However not I get the screen that would normally say Complete but it says four lines of System Reserve Drive: Unavailable. Still have the problem.
Mick, Norton uses the native Windows defragging/optimize feature, so you could just go to your Windows settings, Programs > Windows Administrative Tools and run optimize from there.
Windows 10 Home X 64 Norton Security Premium Current
In my opinion we were still in discussion but apparently Norton thought it necessary to close the thread and regard it as solved.
Ok, so finally, as I realised that Norton wasn’t going to solve this but let the customers do so themselves I had nog other option than follow and try Dick SRAM’s solution. I admit, finally, after numerous restarts, I got NS working properly again, including the existing backup function. Most important, the right-click context menu is back.
However, one issue remains, as stated before and still unanswered:
Also I noticed another issue: drive optimization isn’t working properly anymore since Windows 1803; physical drives aren’t recognized. Therefore, the optimization feature will finish within a second. Haven’t seen this strange behaviour until 1803 update.
Alex, the forums itself automatically closes a thread when there hasn't been any posts for over 30 days. In that thread the original poster selected the post that solved his issue. Norton or admins had nothing to do with the solution being selected Just an FYI, its not intent on any admin. The solution was found in this comment: https://community.norton.com/en/comment/7909271#comment-7909271

This is a totally separate issue from the original posting in the link you provided thus the correct response would be to begin a new thread here. As you have done.
If your boot drive is in great health the scan takes a relatively short time. System reserved drives are omitted as Norton is only concerned with the health of the boot drive. Windows will take care of other physical drives within its settings.

Clear! Regarding my post, don’t get me wrong, no offence whatsoever.
The picture you enclosed looks familiar, that’s how it used to look with me before. Until update 1803. Optimization used to take a few seconds, including external hdd’s.
Now it takes less than a second. I thought that a bit TOO fast so indeed I checked the details. It lists no physical drives. Neither does it say (i.e) C: optimization not required etc.; C simply doesn’t occur at all. It lists only the system reserved drive which indeed is unavaible, as it should.
The absence of the physical drives (in my case: C, D and F) worries me.
Hello again Alex. Use the removal tool and remove your product..use the advanced settings and REMOVE ONLY then reboot your computer. Once done, log into your Norton account and reinstall your Norton product from there. I might also suggest that you disable "fast boot" on your system since it is known to cause issues with installing software.
Cheers

Thanks for reporting in Norton Community Forums. We are aware about this issue "Disk Optimization - System Reserved Drive: Unavailable message" after Windows 10 1803 update". Our team working on this issue and will update once we have more information on fix.
Bump...it seems when this message started showing up under Optimization "System Reserved Drive: Unavailable message" optimize was no longer seeing or optimizing my external USB drives also.
Just for info. I had to reset windows 10 which also caused me to reinstall a fresh copy of Norton Premium. Optimization is not fixed with a fresh "new" install. Just trying to save you time. Probably best to just wait for Norton to fix their problem.
We are releasing Norton Security 22.14.2.13 update for Widows in phased manner. "Disk Optimization : System Reserved Drive Unavailable" issue is fixed with this latest update. Please run LiveUpdate manually to receive this update and let us know the issue fix status.

Same here. Also on Insider version.
Re: optimisation not working after windows 10 update
Hello
According to this Microsoft site, system reserve drives are not supposed to be optimized.

Use the built in Windows optimization. That's what Norton uses, anyway.

This still isn’t functioning.
Anyone else having this problem?

When I run Nortons Optimization Disk why does it state that the reserve drive is unavailable ?

Re: optimisation not working after windows 10 update
Hello surfergirlGG2 Depending on your OS. The reserve drive is a protected part of your hard drive where your factory image may be located as well as all your operating system restore/boot/bitlocker data. Norton will not scan it for those reasons. https://www.howtogeek.com/192772/what-is-the-system-reserved-partition-and-can-you-delete-it/
