Core won't block youtube

One of the main things I need my router to do is block certain websites. My last basic Linksys router did this perfectly, every time. I cannot get the Norton Core to block Youtube. I have tried multiple times, factory reset & tried again. It will not do it. I'm about to the point where I need to abandon the core, despite losing some security, and buying another xheap router that can perform this basic function. Very frustrating.

Re: Core won't block youtube

Hello Jeff. Have you followed these instructions when trying to block YouTube? Adding a "category" should make the block specific to all devices on the network. If you only want a specific user or device blocked there is an avenue for that as well. Please let us know how this helped or didn't.

Cheers

Re: Core won't block youtube

Yes, this is exactly the process I followed. "Youtube.com" is listed as a blocked site for each kid but it is not blocking them.

I plugged my Linksys back in and they are now blocked much to their displeasure!

Thanks for the suggestion.

Any chance the kids are using a VPN?

Things happen. Export/Backup your Norton Password Manager data.

Re: Core won't block youtube

Try turning parental controls for the user.  I tried it and it works but it doesn't give an error that is being blocked it gives more of a dns error and I had to exit the browser and enter it again to clear cache.  It should give an error that the site is being blocked by parental controls like if it does when the site has malware.  This is something that should have fixed a long time ago.

Re: Core won't block youtube

Jeff, also make sure the site URL is this one as well. https://www.youtube.com/

Cheers

Re: Core won't block youtube

Soul, in the IOS app even if you enter the full url it only saves  youtube.com.

Re: Core won't block youtube

MannyT, Indeed so. The entire URL should be inserted just the same. Core will identify it regardless. Here is what I have done on my Core Android app: 1 - Created a user under my name without a filter level, without time limits or weekend time limits. I didn't set any category to block. Once I created my separate name I then assigned my laptop as a device to it, then set the URL for youtube under restricted sites. Once I attempted to open youtube it was immediately blocked. Please see screenshots. Below is screenshot of the browser in use, IE11.

Next screenshots are of Core app notifications

I then tapped NO and the site remains in the blocked site list. Hope this helps.

Cheers

Soul, one difference between IOS and Android.  No Alert notifications.

Re: Core won't block youtube

All: Apologies for the tardy reply. Hoping a Core user on iOS can chime in with some additional notes as I don't use Apple products. Maybe @Gayathri_R  can shed some light on this issue.
