Re: Norton WiFi Privacy

Not a manual as such, but if you click on the gear icon in the NWP window and click on Help, you are taken to the FAQ's for NWP.

If you cannot find what you are looking for there, feel free to ask here in the forum.

Re: Norton WiFi Privacy

Thanks much, I'll see what I can find. I have another question. I want to install WiFi Privacy on my iPhone. I clicked on the gear tab to "Install on another device," and I entered my email address as screen instructed. It then claimed that an email had been sent. I opened my earthlink app on my iPhone and looked for the email, but it wasn't there. What have I missed?

Re: Norton WiFi Privacy

Did you check the spam/junk folder on that device?

Just go to the Apple App Store App on your iPhone and search for and install Norton Wifi Privacy from there. When you install you are asked to sign into your Norton Account to activate the product.

Re: Norton WiFi Privacy

Yes, I checked the spam folder, nothing was there.

I saw that it was possible to install the WiFi Privacy app from the Apple App Store but saw that I would be directed to sign in with my Apple id, which could mean that I would have to pay for the Norton app again.  I didn't proceed further at that time and posted the question which you have so kindly answered.  Thank you.  Will give it a try.

Re: Norton WiFi Privacy

Yes, that worked well ... until today.  When I tried to activate VPN this afternoon, the wifi connection was immediately broken, and even with cell data turned on, the VPN would not connect.  Later I found that the VPN on my desk top was not active either, and it had been set to turn on when the system booted up.  There was a message in this case though about a 'critical update' that had to be loaded before the VPN would work.  OK, I updated the app, and, voila, the VPN was activated.  However, there was no notice on my iPhone about updating the app AND it still doesn't work AND when I attempt to connect, it disconnects the wifi.  Would you or anyone have a suggestion...please.  :)

Re: Norton WiFi Privacy

The NWP on the Windows computer, was to fix an issue created by the new Windows fall update 1809. Which would be totally unrelated to an issue on your iPhone.

Did you just upgrade your iPhone to iOS 12? I just did that overnight, and I now do not have what appears to be a working NWP. The app seems to work, and from the app it will say it has turn on the feature. But checking the IP address,it is the IP given by my ISP. And there is no VPN icon in the notification section at the top of the screen.

I powered down my iPhone, and on restart the NWP app works correctly now. Let me know if this helps you.

Re: Norton WiFi Privacy

Good morning. No I haven't upgraded to iOS 12 yet, somewhat reticent to do so before these other issues are understood.

I tried several ways to get my phone to connect to NWP, and it finally did.  However, I have to wonder if it's really working.  I have tried to find the IP given by my ISP by turning off the NWP app and looking at the current IP address, and both my iPhone and computer give the same result, which is different from the IP address for the computer and the iPhone when the NWP is activated.  However, when I look for the IP assigned by my ISP by going to Network Profile Properties(I have Windows 10) on my desktop, it is not the same as the address given by the NWP app when it is inactivated.  I may be looking in the wrong place for the address assigned by my ISP.  Perhaps the best way to ask a question is: where do I find the IP address assigned by my ISP?  I think I have found it but not sure.

Re: Norton WiFi Privacy

Was restarting your phone one of the things you tried? Just as with Windows PC's, a restart can help sort things out. It may have also just been some temporary issue with the Norton Account servers.

The IP you see noted on your PC with NWP disabled is the IP given by your ISP. You can compare that to the IP on the phone with NWP disabled. They should be the same. To find your ISP given IP on your PC, disable NWP and go to   https://www.whatismyip.com/  That will report the IP given by your ISP. Then you can enable NWP and refresh the whatsmyip web page and see the IP of the NWP server you are connected to.

When you enable NWP, the IP shown will reflect the IP address of the server that NWP has connected to. That is the IP that would be reported to any web sites you visit. The same goes for your phone. Although the IP on the phone may not match the IP on your computer, depending on which server each device connects to.
