norton update required uninstall/reinstall today

Today Norton installed a "fix" and after it said there was an error that requires me to fully uninstall and reinstall Norton.  I did not do and just restarted the laptop.  No message again..Is this a scam?

What is the version of your Norton product. From the main Norton UI, click on Help - About.

When you say a 'fix' was installed, are you referring to running LiveUpdate and getting a Patch to install?

The message to uninstall and reinstall, was it a Norton popup, or did something come up in your browser?

Too bad you did not get a screenshot of the message. That would have helped us diagnose what was happening.

In the end, if your Norton product is still working properly, you should be OK. Just run a full system scan to be sure.

Version 22.15.1.8  and yes when I booted up a norton had discovered something and a fix/ patch came up that said it needed to restart to complete.. I did reboot but then the norton box seemed to be stuck when this pop up came up that there was an error discovered (something like that) and I had to fully uninstall /reinstall..there was a link to the Norton removal tool.  I did not click on the link and did not uninstall..became leary and usually do not follow links.  Sorry I did not think of a capture.   So I guess I will just leave.

Have you tried running LiveUpdate again? Your version of Norton is not the latest 22.16.x.x. that is now available.

Run LiveUpdate and if it asks to apply a Patch, just restart your computer again. Then run LiveUpdate again until it reports no updates available, then restart your computer once more. Then tell us what version of Norton your have.

Thank you for the instructions.  I ran live update a couple times..it finally said there was a patch and I selected to apply now..it did so but gave me an error message saying a driver could not be shut down and Norton was not working and to restart again..I did and it took awhile to reboot (longer than usual) and I ran live update again and got all green - nothing to download or update.  I am now on version 22.16.0.247.  Is that the correct version?  Why didnt live update do all this automatically?  Should I run a full scan now?

That is the correct/latest version for using LiveUpdate. 

There could be a number of things that caused the glitch in your update process. There could be something wrong with your Windows installation, or with your Norton installation.

Start with a check of your Windows system, and let us know if anything is found. Click on Start and type CMD in the search box. Right click on cmd.exe and click on Run as Administrator. Type 'sfc /scannow' without the quotes. This will check your Windows installation and try to correct any errors it finds.

Thank you- the scan found nothing out of order.  Maybe the patch lost internet connection the first time it tried.. All seems good now.. I will keep my eye on the live update and make sure it is happening .  I will get back to you if it does not.  Thank you for your help.
