Norton Secure VPN - iPad iOS 12.1

I have downloaded the very newest Norton Secure VPN App on November 11, 2018. When the App opens I Agree & Continue. All I get is a notice: “We were unable to connect to the server. Please try again later. (8)”. I have tried: I have tried several times at different times of the day. Shut down the iPad. Restarted the iPad. Reload the App. Shut down the modem. Restart the modem. All resulted in the same message. Contacting Norton global service accomplished nothing....each person passes the case to another person. No solution. Has anyone else on iPad iOS 12 to 12.1 had this problem and found a connection solution?

I just uninstalled my Norton VPN, restarted my iPhone 6 on iOS 12.1, and reinstalled Norton VPN. All seems to be working correctly for me.

Try doing what I did to uninstall, restart, then reinstall and see if you still see the same problem. If you do, what part of the world are you in? You seem to be a day ahead of me, so I'm guessing somewhere in the Pacific region. There could be some localized server issues. If you still cannot connect, keep trying over a day or two to see if things get sorted out.

My regular location is the USA...however, I spend 5 months each year in southern Vietnam (winter escape). I’m 13-15 hours ahead of USA times. I arrived here in Vietnam mid October. It worked fine. Then all of a sudden it stopped. On the iPad there is a VPN button. Color Green on...No Color off. That button just kept rapidly switching back and forth. At the same time it cut off my WiFi completely. I finally deleted the Norton Secure VPN App....and instantly WiFi functionality return perfect. Something about the App. That lead me to search Norton further. And have this related question: is the App Norton WiFi Security & Web Protection doing the same thing as Norton Secure WiFi? The Norton Wifi Security & Web Protection App loads and works like I guess it’s supposed to work. No error message.

I just tried leaving the Norton Secure VPN App on my iPad and restarted (previously I deleted the App and then reloaded the App after an iPad restart). Unfortunately, the result was the same Error message. So nothing there. I was only momentarily hopeful.

I’ve tried what I think could work. This is not a good time to try a full iPad reset though.

 I just looked into something else to try. I noticed when I reinstalled my Norton Secure VPN, that I did not have to sign back into my account to activate my subscription. So my settings and data must have been retained. If you go into iOS Settings - General and scroll down to iPhone Storage, scroll down to the Norton Secure VPN app. Tap on that and then tap on Delete App. As noted, that will remove the app and all related data. That would get you a completely fresh reinstall to try again.

is the App Norton WiFi Security & Web Protection doing the same thing as Norton Secure WiFi?

Norton has just renamed some of their products. The older Norton Wifi Privacy app is now Norton Secure VPN. Same product, just a different name.

I assume that the button you seem to be referring to is in iOS Settings? If so, I have found that that does not control turning on and off the Norton Secure VPN. You need to open the app to turn the VPN on and off. If iOS is trying to activate a VPN, it might be causing the interruption of your wifi connection.

This is not a good time to try a full iPad reset though.

An iPad reset should not be required to resolve this issue. It sounds as though your area may be experiencing some temporary server issues with the Norton VPN servers, as indicated by the message “We were unable to connect to the server. Please try again later. (8)”. I would wait another day to check again to see if you are able to connect.

Can you try activating Norton VPN again? Another user was able to activate a mobile Norton product today, that they could not for a few days now.

Well surprise. A few days later it is up and running. VPN. No idea what caused. Hoping it stays active and available. Thanks for the ideas and knowing about the other user getting access finally. I was about to give up. Thanks!

Good news. Thanks for posting back.

I have heard nothing official on the issue. I only suspect it must have been some issue with a Norton subscription server for mobile products. The only similar issues I saw over the last few days were with mobile products.

I have not been able to use the VPN secure with My iphone X and ios 12.1. I have tried everything including all the suggestions above.

I don’t know why my VPN finally worked but it did. After trying numerous changes....I rested on the recommendation to try again after awhile or a couple days. Whatever the problem was...it went away after a couple days. The VPN has worked very well ever since. I use it in conjunction with the Norton Security App. Both play together well. I am no knowledgeable user....I’m only guessing that it had something to do with the initial server my use is connected to having a secure stable handshake with the next server.

No problem at all now. The Norton Secure VPN is working perfectly every day. I am very satisfied with the Norton product. I “think” that awhile ago it was a server problem. Most likely the server in Vietnam where I have been located. No problem now. And...I thank you for your patient help with non-technical me.

Hi,

I'm having the exact same issue on my iPhone since I installed Norton Secure VPN last Saturday.

On my iPad, running the exact same iOS version (12.1.0), the activation was done in seconds on Saturday. However, on my iPhone I still can't get passed this error message (number 8). Upgrading to the latest iOS version, reinstalling the app, restarting the phone, clearing Safari cache, ... nothing solves this problem.

Any ideas what is causing this problem? How to solve it?
