Can Norton Block Me from Sending Email?

I’ve been using Eudora for my email for probably more than 20 years.  Never found another email program that can match it.  My email is separate from my ISP because the ISP I was using quit providing internet for my area but they allowed me to keep my 20 year old email address for a small fee.  Recently I have not been able to send email, so I’ve been forced to use the email from my ISP.  (Charter/Spectrum) I’ve been using Thunderbird, but I hate the way it works, so I downloaded the latest version of Eudora and set it up to use the email from my ISP.  After spending an hour setting Eudora up the way I like it, I tried to send an email, but I found that I can download email from my ISP, but I can not send email.  2 versions of Eudora, 2 different providers.  Both will allow me to download mail, but not send.  When it happened with the Eudora I set up for Charter email, I began to suspect that Norton may be the culprit.  Has Norton done anything lately that would block me from sending email with Eudora?  I can send thru Thunderbird just fine, but I hate that program.

Re: Can Norton Block Me from Sending Email?

Have you tried disabling Norton Email Scanning and AntiSpam to see if those features may be causing the issue?  Also, make sure that you have Eudora properly configured to authenticate and send through the proper server specified by your email service provider.  Most services will not accept mail sent from outside of their system.  Are you getting any notices about your messages being rejected?

Re: Can Norton Block Me from Sending Email?

I have not changed any settings in Eudora for years nor does my email provider see anything on their end that would prevent me from sending emails.

I just tried disabling Norton Email Scanning and AntiSpam settings and it did not work.

Below are two screen shots of the errors when trying to send email.  The short one is from my ISP and the longer one is from my email provider.  Looks like this forum will not allow me to post screen shots, so you will have to click on the links.

Re: Can Norton Block Me from Sending Email?

Hello

Has any of your ports changed for sending emails? Norton would not stop you from sending emails unless the email was malicious. Most messages about email come from your provider. Are you trying to send out long lists of emails or emails with attachments or a lot of pictures. Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling your email program? Check for any port changes or SSL changes.  Checkout your network also.

Have a Good Night and

Thanks.

Re: Can Norton Block Me from Sending Email?

None of my ports have changed.  This is also happening with my laptop.  I Never send out lists nor do I send out emails with a CC: to anyone else, other than me once in a great while.  I’m nervous about uninstalling a program.  I have dozens of mailboxes (folders) that I have created in over 20 years and can not afford to loose any of it.  This is happening with my older version of Eudora and a newer version of Eudora that I just installed.  I have Thunderbird that I’m using in the interim, but I absolutely hate Thunderbird.  It will send emails just fine.

Why are my screen shots I posted in moderation?

That is just to ensure images aren't against forum rules and guidelines. When an Admin checks them they will be visible to all.  FYI, Gurus have the privilege of seeing them before then.

A little bit of knowledge is... well a little bit of knowledge.

Re: Can Norton Block Me from Sending Email?

None of my ports have changed.

And your email provider has confirmed they have not changed their outgoing server port settings?

Try temporarily disabling Norton Smart Firewall to test if it might be blocking something. Right click on the Norton icon in the System Tray, then click on Disable Smart Firewall. If you are still blocked, I see no other Norton feature that could be involved.

If you can still send using Thunderbird, there would appear to be something in your Eudora settings that we are missing? Triple check all outgoing server port and security settings in comparison to your settings in Thunderbird.

Things happen. Export/Backup your Norton Password Manager data.

Re: Can Norton Block Me from Sending Email?

If you can send in Thunderbird, and disabling the only Norton features that would affect email does not resolve the issue, the problem would seem to be in Eudora.  Eudora is famous for these sorts of mysterious, sudden, ailments.  Sounds like maybe a certificate issue.  Can you update those in Eudora?

Re: Can Norton Block Me from Sending Email?

Disabling Norton Smart Firewall did not fix the problem.

Thunderbird is set up with my ISP

Eudora is set up with my email provider.

On my laptop Thunderbird is configured with my email provider.  It will not send either.

I do get a bad certificate notice with Eudora and Thunderbird.

Email provider has confirmed they have not changed their outgoing server port settings.
