Norton App Lock with K-9 Mail app for Android

Bug Report:

If you check the checkbox for "Keep App Locked In Session," PUSH notifications for K-9 Mail app for Android do not get received while smartphone is idle. Notifications resume only while app is unlocked.

If you do not check the checkbox, PUSH notifications function normally while phone is idle.

Tech support please look into this.

Thank you.

What device and Android version are you using?

Have you been using App Lock for some time? If so, has this just started happening?

Re: Norton App Lock with K-9 Mail app for Android

Samsung Galaxy S5 Android Version 6.0.1

K-9 Mail App 5.600

Just downloaded Norton App Lock 2 Days ago, so it is the latest version.

Observed this from the very beginning.

If you do not check the box it works okay, although when you tap the left soft button, to see what apps are open and running, you see a 1/2 size version of the opening screen of K-9 Mail. Not a problem if you set it to just display the folders hierarchy.

But if you check the box, PUS does not work until you unlock the app.

Not sure if this is just a consequence of design or a bug.

Are you the only one using the phone?

Is there a reason you need to keep the app locked within the session? If the phone goes to sleep, it starts a new session and you would have to enter your PIN again.

Re: Norton App Lock with K-9 Mail app for Android

I am the only one using the phone.

I only realized after trying this that when the phone's screen times out, a new session starts when the screen is brought back on.

Having the box checked is not needed for me.

I am just bringing this to the attention of Norton's tech folks and anyone searching the internet for an explanation of whether this is happening to just them or to everyone.

As I wrote above, I do not know if this manner of operation is by design or a bug.

Some folks may consider the fact that when you shrink the locked window down by touching the left soft button on a phone to see which windows/apps are still active, the app lock does not cover the locked app a much larger problem. For me it is not a problem because I have K-9 bring up the folders not the inbox display, but other people might find fault with this operation.

I am just bringing a user perspective. If the Norton people read these forums, they can decide if they want to fix anything I have mentioned.

One thing to test. If you open the app and choose the Keep Locked in Session, then close the mail app, do you still get the notifications.

I can help with the recent used apps issue. Go into the App Lock app and tap on the three bars at the top left of the screen. Then turn on the option Lock Recent Apps list. That will prevent the viewing of background apps.

"If you open the app and choose the Keep Locked in Session, then close the mail app, do you still get the notifications ?"

Yes. Apparently the PUSH is only interfered with after the phone times out.

Yes that works. Good tip. I missed this due to lack of experience with the Norton app.

Yes. Apparently the PUSH is only interfered with after the phone times out.

I would seem that all functions of an app are locked when that setting is enabled.  Probably by  design.

That is how I found the setting. Another user had the same concern you did and I just played around until I found that setting.
