Real time file scanning is off.

I have Belarc Advisor installed on my pc. Belarc Advisor builds a detailed profile of your installed software and hardware, network inventory, any missing Microsoft hotfixes, anti-virus status, security benchmarks, and displays the results in your Web browser. According to Belarc Advisor:  Norton Security Version 22.17.0.183 Realtime File Scanning Off. That is the message that displays on the Computer profile summary provided by Belarc Advisor.. However I have checked all of the settings on Norton and can see no reason why this is indicating that Realtime file scanning is off. What's really bugging me is that I have Belarc Advisor installed on my Desktop PC and my laptop. Both run Windows 10 64 bit. On my laptop pc  I get the message that realtime file scanning is on. (That is not the case for my Desktop PC.) My biggest concern is that somehow my Desktop PC has been compromised. Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Real time file scanning is off.

This sounds like a detection problem with Belarc Advisor. Maybe try contacting Belarc support.

Microsoft has had issues correctly identifying Norton's protection in the Defender Security Center. Maybe something similar???

Things happen. Export/Backup your Norton Password Manager data.

Re: Real time file scanning is off.

You can download the Eicar Anti Malware Test file to check this issue.  If Norton is working, it will detect it.

Peter,

thank you for the response. I have contacted Belarc Advisor about this. They said to make sure that I have the most up to date version of Belarc Advisor which I do.. They were not to much helpful beyond that.

Re: Real time file scanning is off.

SendOfJive,

thank you for the response. I have tried to download files from Eciar. Norton360 seems to be working on the txt files. They were blocked in the download or contained. However, I was able to download the zip files. Norton only contained them after I scanned the zip file. Not sure if that is good or not. Your thoughts.

Re: Real time file scanning is off.

That sounds normal.  Compressed files can be problematic, but the test file should be detected when the zip file contents are extracted.  As long as Norton is detecting the actual eicar file, you know that Auto-Protect is working.
