Unauthorized access blocked on

My Norton 360 has suddenly started reporting every second, Unauthorized access blocked on one program after another

So far, the programs are  VideoCardMonitorII.exe - I set it to be an exception. As soon as I did that, Norton started reporting again every second that this C:\WINDOWS\SYSWOW64\WBEM\wmiprvse.exe was being blocked.

According to what I've found on the web, VideoCardMonitorII.exe is unnecessary so I set it as an exclusion. Then WMIPRVSE.exe started complaining but this is a valid Windows program. Why is Norton complaining about it and how do I resolve it? Or do I have a bigger problem and if so, how do I get out of it.

Re: Unauthorized access blocked on

Have you run LiveUpdate manually a few times, restarting as necessary, until no updates are available? Then restart once more and test.

Things happen. Export/Backup your Norton Password Manager data.

Re: Unauthorized access blocked on

Yes, I have run LiveUpdate and rebooted several times until it says no updates, you are up to date. The blocking message is appearing less frequently now but happening now every two minutes and sometimes changing what it is reporting as unauthorized access blocked.

Re: Unauthorized access blocked on

Have you run a full system scan with your N360?  Also, I would suggest a second opinion scan using the FREE version of Malwarebytes. You can find it here https://www.malwarebytes.com/premium/   If you wish, you can disable the Premium version trial to use the product as an on demand scanner by using the instructions here.  https://support.malwarebytes.com/docs/DOC-1033

Looking at this information on VideoCardMonitorII.exe , check to see that your copy of this file is in the correct location for a legitimate file. If you do not have an MSI video card, you could probably delete the file.

Maybe try resetting the Norton firewall to see if that makes any difference.

To reset the Norton firewall, from the main Norton Security screen click on Settings - Firewall. On the General tab, click on Reset beside Firewall Reset. Restart your computer. As you use programs that access your network/internet, the firewall rules will be created again.

Things happen. Export/Backup your Norton Password Manager data.

Re: Unauthorized access blocked on

These are Norton Product Tamper Protection events.  Norton is preventing the "actor" programs from accessing Norton files and processes.  This is normal and expected.  As long as you recognize the programs as legitimate, there is no harm being done to either your system, Norton, or the blocked programs.  You should simply disregard these, as they are informational only and do not indicate any sort of threat.
