VPN Fan running

When I log into Facebook with VPN. The fan in my computer starts running fast. Does that mean my computer is being hacked or have malware or zombies? I closed all my application except what is need to run my computer. I did a full scan and there was no warning of virus, malware. I have three firewalls running with only port 80 open. Any one know what is going on?

Re: VPN Fan running

With the VPN active, all data into and out of your computer is being encrypted/decrypted by your CPU. This ads extra work load that can cause extra heat. Facebook probably causes a lot of data to be transfered.

Check that your case and all cooling fans are clear of dust and dirt.

Things happen. Export/Backup your Norton Password Manager data.

Re: VPN Fan running

The firewall I am using are Linksys router that has build in firewall, firewall that comes with Mac O/S, firewall that comes with Norton 360 product.

I have Norton 360 products.

I did a diagnostic with "Techtool Pro" application and the result was my exhaust fan is not working.

Thanks for replying.

Re: VPN Fan running

I cleared the dust and dirt off my cooling fans. I did a diagnostic with the application "Techtool Pro"  and the result said my exhaust fan was not working. Thanks for the reply.

Re: VPN Fan running

The fan is not working, or it is not working correctly?

Re: VPN Fan running

When I did the diagnostic. The picture of the fan exhaust spinned for about 2 second then stopped. The Techtool Pro application readout said the fan exhaust "failed."

Re: VPN Fan running

And you note that the fan runs fast when the VPN is active??? So is the Techpro tool giving false information, or is the fan now not running?

Re: VPN Fan running

I probably did not give you enough information previously about my situation. There are five fans in the Mac Pro desktop that I have ( I had to Google that information because I am not a computer technician.)

When the VPN causes more heat in the computer because of the extra work load. It's probably causing one of the other fans to take up the slack and spin faster to make up for the exhaust fan not doing what it is required to do to help cool the computer. If there is anything other that I missed, please let me know.
