Norton forced credit card
Who is the major idiot that forced this automatic renewal system?? What the hell is the big idea? This will be the last time I purchased norton security because of this forced renewal shit. I purchased electronic download version from store and that should be enough. I shouldn't have to put my credit card information to you because I have already bought the stupid program. Are you just collecting information for fun?

Re: Norton forced credit card
Never posted here before and it seems very complicated. Might be wrong place to ask but I am wondering why you have to cancel your subscription before you can opt out of automatic renewal. It makes it look as though you will have no further cover if you are not signed up to automatic renewal. I feel slightly threatened by this. I think my credit card might be near its renewal date anyway, and if not I will just change it. I fully intend to keep Norton, but you are right to say that this treatment makes it very tempting to just abandon it.
Re: Norton forced credit card
Um, why do you think that you have to cancel your subscription before you can opt out of Automatic Renewal.

Re: Norton forced credit card
We have been getting pop-ups from Nortons telling us to update our credit card. We naturally thought this was because we CANCELLED our auto-subscribe year before last. Then we paid at the time on a card last year, due on 11 Dec annually. Seems that the auto-renewal kicked back in when we made the payment last year.
Anyway, today I get an email telling me that the auto-subscription for the next 12 months has been received! Today is NOT 11 Dec. Today is 9 Nov!
We budget and make preparations for certain payments, then this auto-payment jumps in a month early and throws it all out the window!
Then I spend 20 minutes listening to adds and elevator music on the phone, before hanging up in disgust, when I try to talk to Norton support.
Last time Norton. I may still go to our legal advisor with this matter.

Re: Norton forced credit card
I'm done with Norton over this issue. I will not hand over bank details, regardless if you can delete them afterwards. With Norton Security auto-renewal was (OPTIONAL) so why isn't it the case with Norton 360? If I was willing to enter my payment details, I wouldn't be using pre-paid codes.

This just seems like a round-about-way to redeem a code that was previously easy to input and activate. This way will probably only work while they still have to support Norton Security.

I guess Norton shouldn't be printing on its packaging.

There was NO warning email that the subscription was coming out. What's more, it should NOT have come out till 11 Dec!!!!!!!
How hard is it to get this through to you people???????
It took the funds, without any pre-warning, from our account A MONTH EARLY!!!!
This has stuffed up our budgeting system with Christmas coming up you idiots!

Re: Norton forced credit card
None of that would change when it gets paid. Who authorised Norton to take the payment a month early????

Re: Norton forced credit card
Have you checked your spam folder to see if the email went there?
Re: Norton forced credit card
One of the first places I checked.
Re: Norton forced credit card
Why a month early???? Is that question so bloody hard for Norton to answer???
Re: Norton forced credit card
Maybe, ask Official Norton Support why Norton took renewal payment, without pre-renewal emails, from your account a month early.
Maybe, 30 days early credit card transaction was just a small test draw to confirm an active account.
I wonder if your credit card issuer chose payment date to process your Norton product reoccurring payment.
I urge you to find out what happened. You were supposed to receive pre-renewal emails. I get emails from Norton at old, seldom used email accounts. Maybe, pre-renewal emails went to an old email account or to wrong email address.
I do not use Automatic Renewal.

Re: Norton forced credit card
I cannot find documentation on this, but in the past, it has been noted that the payment is taken before the renewal date to ensure continued service. In case the payment is not honoured for some reason, there is still time for Norton to notify the user to arrange a valid payment.
If you did not receive the email notifying you of the pending payment, you need to find out why, and where that email might have gone. Have you changed email addresses since you last purchased/renewed your Norton?
Re: Norton forced credit card
FWIW ~
My auto-pay digital payments are paid on their due date.
My manual-pay digital payments are scheduled to pay on their due date.
Norton could offer nn? days grace period for late auto-renew pay.
Norton could charge penalty for late auto-renew pay.
Or, Norton auto-renew pay terms are = nn? days before subscription end date.
I don't recall auto-renew pay terms documentation = nn? days before end date.
I do recall @peterweb "payment is taken before the renewal date to ensure continued service".
I do recall:
DOCID: kb20080417115558EN
Granted, 1 month before on a reoccurring annual basis sorta' equates to payment every 12 months.
Granted, late payments can end up on your credit reports and damage your credit if they are more than 30 days past due.

Hi @ProvoBob
Chat Support: summary - not verbatim
[...]
Me: How many days before subscription expire date is automatic renewal payment processed.
Chat: Automatic Renewal will happen 30 days before expiry date.
Chat: The automatic payment for monthly subscription will also be processed 30 days prior to expiry date.
Me: Um, is there Norton doc that states 30 days before.
Chat: You will be informed through email before the Automatic Renewal
Chat: You will receive email notification 45 days prior to expiry date.
Me: Hmm....I'll tell friend. One email at 45 days?
Chat: Yes.
Me: Just one email notice?
Chat: Yes, if there is any billing issue in your account you will receive continuous emails for 3 alternative days.
Me: Hmm...Yes, friend payment was pulled....friend says he was not aware 30 days before and feels 30 days is too far in advance.
Chat: The email reminder is to make sure that Norton will continue to protect your computer.
Me: Yes, friend auto-pays vendors on payment due date not 30 days before due date. So, feels 30 days is excess. Just saying.
Chat: I understand your concern.
Chat: I value your feedback.
Chat: I will escalate your feedback to the concerned department.
Me: Ok. I'll advise friend to check his email with Support.
Chat: Thank you for the understanding.
Me: Thanks
Chat: Is there anything else I can assist you with?
Me: No. Thanks
Chat: You are welcome.
