Stop NIS From 'Performing an Activity in the Background'

I have NIS 2010 running on Windows 7.

Occasionally, NIS pops up a message saying that it's 'performing an activity in the background' or 'performing a scan in the background'. All well and good, but sometimes I would like to stop or pause NIS, like when I'm in the middle of a resource-intensive activity.

How can I stop or pause NIS from doing whatever it's doing in the background?

Re: Stop NIS From 'Performing an Activity in the Background'

It should actually stop doing background tasks when you are doing something.  Usually a mouse movement stops it.  If you know that you are going to be using system resources that Norton doesn't seem to be aware of, you can turn the silent mode on ahead of time to suppress the background tasks until you are done.  Sometimes it takes a bit of time to stop the scan, and if it is over-due for a full system scan it can be persistent.

You are quite correct about Silent Mode. From NIS Help:

"When Silent Mode is turned on, Norton Internet Security suppresses alerts and suspends background activities for the duration that you specify." [The emphasis is my own.]

However, I'm not sure what you mean by "it can be persistent". Either the scan can be stopped or it cannot.
