Norton Ghost 12 running on a ASUS Notebook

Hello,

Has anyone successfully created a Symantec Recovery Disk for an ASUS M51Sn Notebook?  If so, how did you do it?

While I have successfully installed Norton Ghost 12 on my ASUS M51Sn Notebook and made a successful backup, I can't create a Recovery Disk.  The application starts the creation process without issue, but when it comes to burn the disk it stalls.

My ASUS M51Sn Notebook is equipped with a Matshiita BD-CMB UJ-120 ATA Drive.  The drive reads/writes CDs, reads/writes DVDs and reads only Blu-Ray disks. The drive will format and copy files to CD without issue, in short the drive appears fully functional.  Any thoughts or suggestions?

Regards,

Lloyd

Which operating system are you running? This might help to clarify the issue. Also, there may be an issue with the media when creating an boot disk. Have you tried to create other boot disks? How did that work? You may want to try using a different brand of disk as well.

Re: Norton Ghost 12 running on a ASUS Notebook

Tony,

Thanks for the reply.

First, I am running Vista Ultimate with SP1.  I have created other boot disks with Norton Ghost 12 with the same media, but on  XP Professional/Home equipped laptops/desktops.  Also, these XP Computers where equipped with standard CD/DVD Burners.

In this instance, the issue is with a ASUS Laptop running Vista Ultimate (SP 1) equipped with a Blu-ray disc drive.  Since, my first email I have developed a suspicion that Norton Ghost has yet to catch up with Blu-ray drives.

I have not tried a different brand of media.

Regards,

Lloyd

Re: Norton Ghost 12 running on a ASUS Notebook

I apologize; after reviewing the information, it makes a bit more sense. When Ghost 12.0 was released, the gear driver for your CD/DVD drive most likely was not available and therefore not part of the product. I'm checking on Ghost 14.0 right now, but that's probably the reason for the problem with Ghost 12.0. Let me know if you have any other questions. Thanks!

Additionally, you want to make sure that the firmware is up-to-date for that drive:

ftp://ftp.vaio.sony.co.jp/pub/vaio/download/SP-011741-13/MTFOPD-01174113-UN.exe

This may also be an issue that affects the burning of the disk. Please let me know if this helps. Thanks!

Re: Norton Ghost 12 running on a ASUS Notebook

Thanks for the advice.  At the risk of asking a silly question; how does the supplied link for a Sony Vaio Computer help me with an ASUS computer?  In this instance the Blu-Ray ROM/DVD Burner/CD Burner resides in a ASUS Notebook.

Based on my experience with Sony (as I also own a Vaio Laptop) it appears their drivers are unique to their computers and will not work with other brands.

You are correct; for drivers, you would want to check the ASUS Support website. This update is to the firmware for the drive, which is not available on the ASUS Support site.
