Items Added to My Computer; do I have malware?

Hi,

I noticed two items that were added to my computer and I don't have any idea what they are there:

1)  On the Start menu, listed is "Backup and Restore Center"

2)  In my Documents folder is a folder titled "My Data Sources" and inside this folder are two things: (a) +Connect to New Data Source and (b) +NewSQLServerConnection.

I have Windows Vista x64-bit.

I don't have a clue how this stuff got on my computer; to my knowledge I haven't used this stuff.

Can anyone tell me if I've got malware of some kind?

Thanks very much.

Cody - Before someone can start to help you, they might need a bit more information.  What Norton's product are you using?  If it's Norton 360, I think it has a backup feature that might create that folder and files.  If it is 360, someone may move your post to the 360 forum, where you can get additional help.  Have you run any scans and if so did they show any malware?  If you want a second or third scan of your PC, you might try Malwarebytes' and/or SUPERAntiSpyware.  Both are free on demand scanners and they both work well with Nortons.  Come back and let us know what you find, others may see the same folder and files.

Information on the Vista Backup and Restore feature is here:

https://www.microsoft.com/athome/setup/backupdata.aspx: https://www.microsoft.com/athome/setup/backupdata.aspx

The other folders are likely MS Office folders to do with mail merge.

Re: Items Added to My Computer; do I have malware?

Hello, I use NIS 2011. I've run NIS scans and nothing was found, even in Safe Mode. If I have malware, is there a way to install Malwarebytes' without the malware disabling it? Ditto with SUPERAntiSpyware. Do you know of any specific Trojans, keyloggers, etc. that might utilize the stuff I mentioned in my first post? Thanks very much. Cody

Cody - I hope delphinium's suggestions helped you.  If you would still like to try them, here are the links to Malwarebytes' and SUPERAntiSpyware.  I hope they help you.

Cody did the scans find any problems or does your system appear to be clean?

Those aren't malware, but  Excel files.
