NIS 2011, Installation Using CD Question

Hi,

I have a question regarding using the NIS 2011 installation CD.  At the end of the installation process, a screen comes up asking for a email address and password for a Norton Account.  I don't have a Norton Account, and don't buy on-line, so I wouldn't even know what email address or password to enter.  I managed to get out of this page and everything seemed to work okay.

The next day I went into my Administrator account and when I clicked on Norton, up came this same Norton Account page to enter an email and password.  This page was in front of the Norton main page.  Since there wasn't any "X" in the upper right corner to click to get out, I went into Task Manager to end the process.  Well, the page shaded out and caused the computer to freeze up.  I had to shut down the computer manually.

I had NIS 2010 and there was no such "Norton Account" page on the installation CD.

Could you tell me what this Norton Account page is?  What am I supposed to do with it?  Why is there no way to get out of it?  How can I fix this problem since it will show up every time I go into my Administrative Account (but not my Standard account)?

Thanks,

Cody

Re: NIS 2011, Installation Using CD Question

Hello Cody

The Norton Account is the place where Symantec keeps records of the Norton products you have installed on your computer whether or not you have purchased them thru Norton themselves.  This www.mynortonaccount.com  keeps a record of your key and when you installed your product and how many installations you have left if you have a 3 pc license. It is all very safe. If you purchased your Norton product thru Symantec website and had to pay by credit card, there would be a record of that also. You can have that information removed so that they don't automatically renew your product. It is good to have so that in case you have to reinstall your Norton product, the key will be located on that site. It asks for an email address and for you to pick out a password so that the account is more secure.  Once you create the account, it will not bother you again. It is also there since with the 2011 products, it can be set up to automatically download next year's version, but you can also set it so that doesn't happen.

I hope I have answered all your concerns about it. If you have any other questions, please ask away. Thanks.

Re: NIS 2011, Installation Using CD Question

Hi Floplot,

When I first installed the product, I typed in an email address and made up a new password and typed it in.  I got a message back saying that the password wasn't recognized.  I then assumed that this wasn't to create a new account, so I just got out of the page.  I don't really want a Norton account.  I also don't want my computer to freeze whenever I need to go into my Administrator Account.  Is there something I can do?  It bothers me that it seems to assume that I have a Norton account already and the name and password is wrong.

Thanks very much,

Cody

Re: NIS 2011, Installation Using CD Question

Hello Cody

Since you had NIS 2010, you probably created the account automatically when you installed NIS 2010. I would suggest you call customer support using the free chat program and discuss this with them. They are the ones who handle activations and subscriptions. They will probably be able to tell you if you have another norton account which you probably do have since you had installed NIS 2010 at some point. If you entered a different password this time, then it won't recognise it. Customer support should be able to help you with this problem.

This is the link for US/Can. If you need a different location, please consult your local Symantec site for the local free chat customer support link.

Please come back and let us know how you made out. Thanks.

Re: NIS 2011, Installation Using CD Question

Hi cody,,

No need to worry... It is just a few steps to resolve this issue...!!!

All we have to do is, check under what's the name and password that your Norton is registered. So, just go ahead and contact the Norton chat support and just tell them your issue and also give your product key.

They will take care of it...
