Cant locate Internet Security Suite locally for 2012...

I just upgraded from 2011 to 2012 (NISS) ...but have to renew next month for another year.

                  I don't see NISS 2012 available locally - only 2011 !

I do not want to renew at the NISS site as i can do better price-wise purchasing locally and then using the new 'key' from that product.

Any advices appreciated !   many thanks in advance -

Hi EDYTHE:

You can buy a 2011 version of the software, often at a better price, and use that key to renew 2012.  The keys are not hooked to a specific year.

Re: Cant locate Internet Security Suite locally for 2012...

Check out the weekend flyers -- I see Norton Internet Security bundled with Norton Utilities for $19.99 after rebates ....

Please note that the Norton retail product does not use the word Suite but just Norton Internet Security while the COMCAST version of Norton 360 does use the word "Suite" .......

Re: Cant locate Internet Security Suite locally for 2012...

why would i want Utilities?   does that do automatically what i do myself i.e. defrag, etc.  I don't mind doing those 'chores' - don't want to put out over $100 for something i don't really need...and 'hope' the rebates work - i don't like using rebates ... you mentioned not to use the word ''suites '  is that do i don't purchase the wrong product ?

Good question -- I know I don't need Utilities but if it gives me a bargain ...... I don't have to use it and I might make someone's day by giving it away ...

I've never had any problems with rebates but it's up to the buyer.

I suggested not to use Suites if you refer to Norton Internet Security because of the similarly titled COMCAST version of N 360. You can't buy it since it comes free if you use COMCAST as your ISP. The caution was to avoid incorrect advice here.

Clearly you should go to the Norton eStore and look for the best buy there to renew your NIS since you don't have to buy 2012 to upgrade to it if you have a valid NIS licence already for an earlier version. So again if you spot 2010 or 2011 cheap from a reliable source you can buy that and just use the KEY.

Even better -- on your installed copy go to your MyNortonAccount, log in and see if you there is a box Special Offers ...

Clicked on mine and I can get NIS 2012 for 3 PCs for $49.99 ....... but whether that is universal I don't know. I would think so.

I just logged into my account at  www.mynortonaccount.com and looked for the Special Offer link (it was on the right-hand side of the screen).

When I clicked on that link I found several special offers available in my region, one of which was for:

Norton Internet Security 2012 (1 Year Subscription) + Norton Utilities

both together, for less than $25 (no need to use rebates; this is the current online special price for Norton customers in this region).    I think that if you try to access the same link for your local region you may find similar offers.  As Hugh said,  even if you don't want to ever install or use Norton Utilities, this is a bargain if what you want to get is a discounted NIS 2012 license key.

Hi thanks for your kind reply - i can't argue with your rational - guess you're right - can't hurt to have 'Utilities' ( which i assume will do all the ' dusting & cleaning' ''automatically that  i do manually ,if my assumption is correct  or at best -give it to someone .

You're right also about 'rebates' - the store i deal with locally has never disappointed me and stands behind their company's rebates so i guess i'll take that route  with the grand renewal  total of $19.99 for Norton Internet Security for the year.

Interesting about Comcast using 'suites' for their free version - but they're not my ISP so nothing i could do that would confuse the issue ... (i can manage 'that' on my  own !  ha ha)

Anyway i really appreciate your time and help !!!!   best wishes, edythe

Re: Cant locate Internet Security Suite locally for 2012...

Edythe,

Ain't marketing grand ......

What is very very interesting is that for years users have complained that they were "robbed" by Norton on line compared with buying from stores .... and now they are able to make these very good offers without having to wait for rebates.

BTW The Norton Rebates now, like many others, come on a prepaid VISA debit card which you don't have to use with Norton and which you can use partially and not lose the balance. I used two to get something online from Amazon with something left over on one of them and then later used the balance for something else. And they came more quickly than checks used to.

I'd go for the ONLINE deal since you may escape sales tax ( don't know whether you get a physical pacakage or download. And my recommendation is not to install the Norton Utilities until you are thoroughly settled in with any changes that NIS 2012 may show in it's interface etc.

Some things like "optimization" are part of NIS 2012 anyway so you don't need a seperate defragger ... and if you are running WIndows 7 it defragas automatically in the backgroound which I didn't know until someone pointed it out. I certainly did not see any hit on the system.

There's a Disk Cleaner built into Windows in the Properties TAB of any hard drive ....
