Re: WHO MAKES THIS STUPID RULE?????

Really? I used my current key for 3 different languages. I bought mine from Amazon Germany. And installed to my Dutch edition.

Now I installed the English version to test the latest patch for NIS2013, since it is not yet released for Dutch edition.

Maybe you can install the English version first. Then download a trial version of Dutch so Norton will maybe automatically apply your key?

Probeer dat eens. ;-)

@ Cell.. heb je deze Topic al gelezen: http://community.norton.com/t5/Norton-Internet-Security-Norton/Product-activation-attempted-with-a-key-for-a-different-language/td-p/917803

And what's the reason to do such dramatic decision, what the hell should I do with my copies of NIS that I bought on Amazon.uk ?!   I have 3 boxes that are English languages...

I can't use dutch language now!!!

What to think of other people over the world that bought Norton Boxes that are in other languages and want them in their own language, like I do with my English boxes that I bought on Amazon.uk, so I'm forced to use that specific language and can NOT use dutch!!!!!

Obviously you are furious at the moment, ferenzzz, but I understand you are angry since you did not know the new rule when you ordered your product. But such rules are not uncommon, that is why I in January asked Country specific license code?

Yes, I now see you have quoted the first part of the pinned topic's heading, but you have not created any link or referred to the topic. It was my supposition that you quoted a message from the setup program; I just wanted to tell you that this was a deliberate decision from Symantec.

I hope you are able to solve your issue, stay calm.

Re: WHO MAKES THIS STUPID RULE?????

This is something that has just been thrown at us out of the blue --

Product activation attempted with a key for a different language results in Invalid Product Key error

and frankly you know as much about it as we volunteers do.

I've asked for some clarification on how users are meant to achieve the result .....

I can imagine that the reason it has happened is that Norton distributors have been complaining that people are buying cheap copies from legitimate sources outside the country of use and then downloading the correct language version.

huwyngr I know that I'm not stupid.. but that's the market, if I can find some good deal somewhere over the world I want to buy the cheapest there is, now I'm forced to buy only here in The Netherland what's available...

And what about people/users like me who bought boxes from other countries and can't use them anymore in their own language ?!

According to this Topic: http://community.norton.com/t5/Norton-Internet-Security-Norton/Product-activation-attempted-with-a-key-for-a-different-language/td-p/917803

Of course al my complaining is about the above Topic

Please be patient -- I've asked exactly those questions of Norton even citing that Amazon UK is the source for Amazon purchases if you live in the Netherlands and what about the people who have followed the instructions given here by Norton Staff. I tried to purchase NIS UK version from Amazon UK using my Amazon account and it said it could not accept orders for shipment to the USA with a FAQ giving several possible reasons ....

Remember please that this is obviously a marketing/legal department move and we, including the Norton Staff, are technical support so don't shoot the messengers ....

Re: WHO MAKES THIS STUPID RULE?????

Well done Symantec!

Another decision to sum with others in last 360 days...

-Out of Avcomparatives...

-The new NIS2013 with several bugs...

With this silly savings that Symantec want do,in final of my subscrition I will change to another AV Company.

I don´t know if management changed but in recent times,Symantec  have been decreasing the quality.

You can be sure that at the end of subscrition I will change.

Fortunately for you guys not all your clients are like me...

Re: WHO MAKES THIS STUPID RULE?????

Ferenzz and others actually involved

Do see the amendment to the posted notice on this

http://community.norton.com/t5/Norton-Internet-Security-Norton/Product-activation-attempted-with-a-key-for-a-different-language/td-p/917803

At least now it only applies to Simplified Chinese keys and so for example people in Europe who buy from Amazon in one country but use a different language should still be able to use the key from what they bought and download the different language version.

I can understand Norton's situation on this and I hope they move very slowly if at all.

I've asked for confirmation that Norton OnLine Support will resolve your situation assuming you are not using a Simplified Chinese Key !!!!!

Re: WHO MAKES THIS STUPID RULE?????

Thanks Hugh!

As already said, I know it is not uncommon that AV vendors have region specific license keys. That is why I asked Country specific license code? in another post.

All of us want to buy a product at a reasonable price. Sometimes it is it difficult to understand the rules in the marketplace. Why should I have to pay 2.4 times the US price if I buy NIS at Symantec in my own country? I appreciate the new decision from Symantec. And huwyngr, you deserve credit for your efforts.

BTW, what about my purchase of NIS in the US? My wife denied to wait, she wanted a NIS license NOW (like I have had since December). The problems with Kaspersky have lasted too long. Both of us are now running NIS v20 ISP version, I guess we are changing to a standard Norton product in the future. With Norton Account and chat/phone support.

In any case, this user forum with it's gurus and participation from Symantec employees is great. The support I have got is impressing!

Re: WHO MAKES THIS STUPID RULE?????

It's a stupid rule!

I'm from China. But I'm using NIS for about 6 years. My computer is using english version of windows..

I just renewal my NIS license for 3 years two month before....And from next week I'll migrate to Australia.

So now I can't active my NIS anymore?

Well, how can I get my money back?

Re: WHO MAKES THIS STUPID RULE?????

That's also a problem, I have bought a copy from NIS in China online a few years ago and I have since then extended my license with several keys I bought online and from NIS boxes so I have a license now for 6 years, when I look at my key in Norton Account I see that the key is a Simplified Chinese although I'm using this for a very long time now, should I be worried that it get's blocked when using NIS Dutch version ?

With extend I mean the first license I have bought was for 1 year but I bought it in China after that I bought several NIS keys online and on Amazon, so that the days get counted up, like 1 year (365 days) + 1 year license I bought somewhere else and so on..

Should I be worried that my key gets blocked, my key is now valid till 2019... it costed me a lot of money to buy all these keys!!!

Should I contact Norton Support on this ?!

Re: WHO MAKES THIS STUPID RULE?????

Ferenzz and others,

I asked last night what users with rejected keys especially if bought before the announcement was made were to do and am waiting for a reply.

My guess is that Norton will honor them / replace them in some way but don't take that to the bank.

Re: WHO MAKES THIS STUPID RULE?????

Tony Weiss sended me a PM, I'm quoting him now

"As stated in the announcement, only NEW activations will be affected. Any key that is already activated will not be affected by this change. I hope that helps. Thanks.

Regards,

Tony"

So I'm safe... thanks again for all the replies guys..

Re: WHO MAKES THIS STUPID RULE?????

Hi Hugh

I have always been very open on the use of simplified Chinese keys. I buy full product from market retailers on Amazon.cn. (Amazon China). I get the product delivered in China. The packets are opened and the Product Key is validated with Norton Customer Services to ensure that the numbers are genuine. I buy 3 year licenses.

I buy in bulk. I have in the past been told by Norton that using simplified chinese keys to activate English language is acceptable.

So this rule and change comes out of the blue and takes no account of legitimate purchases and previous advice from Norton.

Perhaps you could persuade the powers that be to also resolve the situation assuming that I am using a Simplified Chinese key.

I have systems on which Norton expires in 13 days and I had planned to use at least two of the Chinese keys to subscribe for 3 years. Its is not fair that I should take a financial hit when up until the announcement Norton was well aware that Chinese keys were being used to activate English language.

Re: WHO MAKES THIS STUPID RULE?????

Clive,

I remembered you when this situation occurred.

I can only suggest you do as indicated by the message above:

http://community.norton.com/t5/Norton-Internet-Security-Norton/WHO-MAKES-THIS-STUPID-RULE/m-p/920113#M233135

and PM or email Tony Weiss.

You have just as much influence as I do, more in fact since you are a customer on this.

Good luck

Hugh
