2 suspicious history entries while logged off

Hello. Today, I noticed 2 entries in Norton's security history that concerned me.

1.) High Disk Read usage by: Client Server Runtime Process

and

2.) High CPU Usage by: Host Process for Windows Services.

I believe I've seen these messages before. What concerns me is that these messages came up while no one was logged on the computer. Is is possible that these messages may be the result of normal background activity on the computer or could this be a hacker or virus? Thanks.

Caleb, that sounds like normal background task notifications. I doubt you have a problem with malware, but you can always run a full scan, to set your mind at rest. Don't forget Norton is always chugging away in the background, protecting you.....

Windows is also running tasks in the background, such as the Windows Updates.

To help set your mind to rest, after you run a full system scan with Norton I would suggest a second opinion scan using the FREE version of Malwarebytes. You can find it here http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free/

Things happen. Export/Backup your Norton Password Manager data.

Re: 2 suspicious history entries while logged off

I have noticed the same thing on my PC. Sometimes at night when nobody is using the PC ( we keep it on 24/7 for most part). Then I also noticed the high disk usage entry around the time i downloaded/installed the latest Microsoft updates.
So that leads me to believe that it is just part if normal workings

Caleb,

Did you ever check the Power Settings to see if closing the lid did Shut Down or go to a state where an incoming signal would start up the computer.

Note there also may be a Setting called Wake on LAN which wakes up the computer if it Sleeping. I'm not sure where that one is located. But I believe the default on this is OFF for laptops perhaps for this reason.
