New computer,Downloaded latest trial version of NIS, can't use old key to activate?

Hi all

The subject line says it all...is there a reason I can not use a 2012 key on the latest trial version?NIS  Version 20.4.0.40.

Thanks

Cheers Mo Windows 7 64 bit, NIS2013

Re: New computer,Downloaded latest trial version of NIS, can't use old key to activate?

Norton product keys are designed and intended to activate products that are sold in the same language as the keys. To ensure that customers are using the appropriate keys and product versions, Symantec has implemented a feature that requires the language of the key to match the language of the layout. The initial rollout is limited to Simplified Chinese keys.

Customers who attempt to activate a Norton product with a Simplified Chinese product key that differs from that product language version may wish to return the incorrect key to the reseller they purchased from. Customers who would like to download the English version should purchase the English version of the product or key. We recommend that customers purchase the English version product directly from the Norton Store or legitimate retailer.

I have one valid subscription/license left on a 3pc NIS 2012 product.I assumed I could use that last key on my new computer.I tried entering it but nothing happened (I will be trying again).

Hi mo,

If you continue to have difficulties activating - perhaps you can contact Live chat, explain the situation to them and they should be able to assist you.

I am trying to avoid that pathway, but if it comes to it I will just have to give them a visit.

Re: New computer,Downloaded latest trial version of NIS, can't use old key to activate?

Some time ago, we found there were issues with keys not working between 2012 and 2013. The only fix was to contact support and get them to exchange your key for one that was compatible with both versions.

Another option would be to download and install the 2012 version on the new computer. Then you could upgrade at a later time without issue.    www.norton.com/nis12

Things happen. Export/Backup your Norton Password Manager data.

peterweb,

IIRC that was for backwards compatability - in other words - using a 2013 key to activate a 2012 product - the opposite of what is happening here.

I just went from NIS 2012 to NIS 2013 (ver 20) and did a removal and clean install of NIS 2013 (ver 20).

What I did was log into my Norton Account and used that download link and it downloaded the newest version (ver 20) with my 2012 key already installed. Worked on 2 of my system and I to go.

This should work also on your new computer since you have one activation remaining.

Correct me if I am thinking incorrectly PhoneMan, but mo has a trial of v 20.4.0.40 already installed and is trying to activate it with an exsisting remaining license from his current 3 user license.

That is a different situation than installing the latest version via the Norton Account download button, as you have done.  Mo should not need to do a removal of the trial and a clean install, although it may be a solution as a workaround.

I agree, just giving a workaround and also information to others that want to upgrade to the lastest version.

I think I worked it out...see if this makes sense.

1)I had to register the trial version in my norton Account then use its key to activate the trial version.

2) I then copy and pasted my spare key into the trial version the "next" button showed up yellow (not grayed out),I clicked it and now all is working as it should with 220 days remaining.

Hi mo,

Glad you got it sorted and glad you shared the solution.  If all remains good (which it should), please mark your fix as the solution.

What you are actually saying is the trial version was installed on the new system - but had not been activated.  Thus you had to activate the Trial issue and add it to your Norton Account.  This permitted you to use the remaining license you had from your current NIS license to activate the trial version.  Makes sense to me.
