Firefox 23.01 loads duplicate pages -

Hi - i know this is the Norton Forum but didn't know if there was a 'connection'    (xp have latest NIS(JUST UPGRADED) ...don't have F.F. 'set' to load at 'startup' ...but when i manually launch it i get at least two 'loads' (one without 'tool bar' showing) of F.F. ... i have to 'delete' that one since i dont want 'two' F.F.'s loaded..

Wonder if i have a 'start-up' menu problem but i'm not 'savy' on how to 'remove' a program from 'start up' ... thanks so much for any input.

Edythe, it sounds to me more like a Firefox problem, than a Norton one. You could try reinstalling Firefox, to see if that fixes the problem. Firefox doesn't exactly *load at startup*, but should only launch when you click on the icon, or your start menu. You could also check in Norton in Settings / Network / Smart Firewall / Program Rules, and check if you have two instances of Firefox. If you do, delete one, and set the other to allow. Maybe that will help.

Hello - did the above - only one entry for Firefox listed ... and you're right - i didn't explain myself - F.F. launches only when i click on icon - sorry about that .      but thanks for trying to help .       edythe

Hi EDYTHE:

This could have something do do with the sensitivy of your mouse and the time it takes your Firefox browser to load.  Go to Start | Control Panel | Mouse | Buttons and try changing the double-click speed of your mouse.  Do you always launch two instances of Firefox when you double-click on the Firefox icon, regardless of whether the click speed of your mouse is set to its slowest or fastest setting?

If the click speed has no effect, see the instructions here and temporarily set your desktop icons to open with a single click. Then re-boot your computer, click the Firefox icon once, and wait for about 30 seconds to see if only one instance of Firefox opens. If two instances of Firefox still load, test a few other destop icons just to confirm that a single click will actualy launch your other programs.

...and further to my previous post,  if you're connected to the Internet you can check your Firefox load speeds in your browser at Help | Firerfox Health Report.  Just click the ALL button to see all load speeds instead of the daily average.

oh my gosh !!!  before i came here this a.m. i did exactly what you had posted above!!   .....' i experimented making sure i only 'single-clicked' on F.F. - many times to test- (closed, relaunched with a 'single' click) and voila!!  it worked - only launched ONE FF !!!  i was in the habit with everything of doing a 'fast' double click !!!  now i know better and i also checked the 'speed' of the 'clicker' in your example above.

         Many thanks !!!!

Hi Edythe:

So great minds do think alike!  Glad to hear your Firefox launch is working normally again.

When I read your original post it sounded eerily familiar.  I inherited someone's old computer at work and it took me a while to realize that they'd reconfigured their icons to open on a single click.  I had a good laugh when I finally figured it out but it was a bit of a head-scratcher.

Hi Edythe:

So great minds do think alike!  Glad to hear your Firefox launch is working normally again.  DON'T COUNT ME AMONG THE 'GREAT MINDS' LOL.  BUT SUDDENLY THE THOUGHT OCCURRED TO ME TO CHECK MY MOUSE CONTROLS.   (OH DEAR- i typed in caps - i'm sorry !  i used to do that so my words would stand out and not get 'lost' inbetween the O.P. and my reply but i got yelled at !  after scurring to a corner (sarcasm intended) i vowed never to do that again !!   ) I have a feeling you wouldn't care but thought i'd apologize anyway)      ;)
