Norton 360 High Disk Usage/ Quickscan...screenshot.

Hi all.

question please...

Checked security history ...high disk usage by Norton 360 and also...I have the quickscan set to manual and it ran last night while I was sleeping. Why?

Thank you in advance for any insight you can offer

Oh...I have 2 users set up on the computer as admin but I only use one...the other is a sort of 'safety' in the event I can't login or something happens to the other account...don't know if that makes a difference or not...do I have to login to the other windows account and change the settings for that account separately there, too? I thought I could handle all my N360 tasks from my usual login...??

Hi Paula,

Your screenshot must be approved by the Mods before becoming visible.

Anyhow, please note that a quick scan also runs automatically after any new virus defs set update as soon as the computer is idleSo please check in history if there had been this kind of update before that quick scan.

Look forward to hearing back from you.

Is there an answer for this question yet ?

Strange, but the Norton executables are supposed to be excluded by the performance monitoring by default, so you must have deleted those exclusions?  But anyway, it is quite normal for the disk usage to be high for the Norton process, because it does the disk scanning. :)

No I don't delete anything that belongs to Norton except I clear my security history once in a while so I don't have a huge 4 page log going.

I do not mess with the operating files of the programs on my computer. I only edit and delete my own files or say...downloaded photos I don't want to use as desktop wallpaper anymore.

I haven't deleted anything from exclusions. I don't even think I know how.

Not happy about the high CPU usage...I mean...what on earth is Norton doing, anyway? If they're using 100% cpu then it can't be using any to protect my system while it's doing it, right?

That doesn't sound right to me.

No, no answer yet...still waiting. Weekend's coming up...I suppose I'll have to wait until Monday and then wait some more.

sigh

Where are you seeing high CPU usage? Everything you posted looks completely normal for Norton. Of course there's going to be high disk usage! It's scanning the drive!

Hi, Paula. It's quite normal for Norton to give the hard disk a bit of a workout when it's scanning, as it is indeed scanning all your files.

It will be more noticeable on a machine with lower ram and cpu specs, but I wouldn't be concerned.

As Rainbow_2 said, Norton will do a quick scan after new definitions, if the system is idle. Again, quite normal.

Regardless of the cpu usage while scanning, Norton Protection is still operational. Just behind the scenes !
