0x800CCC0F 'The connection to the server was interrupted'

Hi,

I just installed Norton Antivirus 2009 on Vista with Office 2007.

I tried to Send and Receive in Outlook2007 but I always receive the error message when trying to receive E-mails:

"... Receiving reported an error: 0x800CCC0F 'The connection to the server was interrupted'".

If I switch off Scanning of incoming E-mails in Antivirus settings, everything is all ok, I receive E-mails.

If I switch it on, same error message occurs, no incoming E-mails.

It is very annoying that I just purchased the latest Antivirus product and it still has this error what was reported already years ago for Antivirus 2007.

Is there any workaround to scan incoming mails and still to be able to receive E-mails in Outlook without any problem?

I do not have this problem on XP only on Vista.

I have looked into earlier forums and MS Knowledge base but I have not found any solution for Vista and Antivirus 2009.

Any workaround very welcome....

What type of Email service do you use with Outlook2007; POP3, SMTP, Exchange, etc ?

Which ports do you use for send/receive email in your Outlook 2007?

The Standard ports for POP3 is 110 and  SMTP is 25, let us know if it is set to other ports like 995 for POP3. Also, try enabling This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL) for POP3 in the email settings of Outlook 2007.

We are using standard POP3 with port 110 without SSL.

It works perfectly when I disable the Scan incoming mail. If I enable it in NAV it stops working.

I do not think it is a problem of the port settings cause it is dependent on the ISP....

Any clue very welcome!

Do you have any other Security program like Webroot Spysweeper, Adaware or ZoneAlarm installed in your computer?

If you have anything like that, disable the email scan from it's settings and then enable the email scan from Norton AntiVirus 2009. Then try to send or receive emails. If the problem persists, then try increasing the server timeouts.

1. Open Outlook 2007.
2. From the Tools menu, click Account Settings.
3. Double Click on the e-mail account that you would like to change.
4. Click More Settings.
5. On the Advanced tab, under Server Timeouts, move the slider bar all the way to Long.
6. Click OK.
7. Click Next, and then click Finish.
8. Restart Outlook.

I have no other security program. Server timeout does not help even if it is set to maximum.

Strange that however high I set the server timeout Send and Receive process in Outlook end in ca. 10 seconds.

Outlook lists how many new mails are on the POP3 server and counts message numbers as if it would download something.

But this complete count down happens in 1-2 seconds. It seems that NAV is blocking somehow the incoming mail download but how?

In my problem description I mentioned that if I disable incoming mail scanning in NAV I can receive mails without any problem.

Why would you think that any other security program interfere here if the problem is solved by disabling the incoming mailscanning in NAV?

I have seen this error while using Norton AntiVirus along with certain other security programs like Webroot Spysweeper which also have the same email scanning feature. The issue is caused when the same email is being scanned by the other Security program which in turn conflicts with the email scan in Norton. So, disabling the email scanning from either one of the Security programs resolve the problem.

Case solved for me. I changed the POP3 connection to be encrypted by SSL in Outlook, port changed automatically from 110 to 995.

And all of a sudden it started working even if NAV Incoming mail scanning is on.

I do not know why it did not work with the standard port 110 under Vista, why is it working on XP.

But at least it works for me now....

Thanks for all hints you gave me!
