All the PC’s on the home network use 255.255.255.0.
I have 2 NIC's installed in my PC. One connects to the Internet, the other one to a home network. I have found that in order for Norton 360 to see my home network, I have to do a "route add 0.0.0.0 mask 0.0.0.0 10.10.10.0" (my home network is 10.10.10.xxx) but then I cannot access the Internet. If I remove the route, I have access to the Internet but Norton 360 does not see the home network.
Any ideas on what to change/confirgure to make it so that I can have Norton 360 see the home network and have access to the Internet at the same time?
What message did you see when you open network map without the add route command?
A warning dialog that says, “Norton 360 is unable to probe your network. This may be due to a tunneling protocol (such as a VPN), a large network, or other technical problems. Do you want to try again?” Clicking on Retry just brings up the message again.
Can you try renumber your home network IP to 192.168.1.xxx and net mask 255.255.255.0? If that works please post on the board, thanks.
I found a solution. Don't know if it is the right solution.
I went into the firewall and manually created a traffic rule that lets everything pass between all computers on the home network - no restrictions - and made it the first rule. I did this even though the network shows as trusted under network locations. Know, I have access to my home network and the internet at the same time.
That is correct. Our of the box Norton 360’s firewall does not permit home network traffic. You have to create a Traffic Rule and then move the rule to the top of the list. If you were not told this and did not search it out of the forum, then well done to you.
N360's home networking does not support network greater than class C. Please check if your PC's subnet mask is 255.255.255.0.
If so, you should be able to see the home network without breaking internet connectivity.
