360 causing computer to freeze

Installed Malware prog.....found 437 prob!  Oh my.  Ran scan 4 times to get rid of prob.  OK now system runs much faster and access to internet is quicker.  THANK YOU!:smileysurprised:

Went to download the removal program...no go.  To answer the other msg you sent me:  I can get as far as getting to the download when I actually loose my internet connection.  I get the popup notifying me that I don't have connection (yet I'm ON-line??).  That's why I contacted my provider earlier today.  No prob with internet until I try to download removal tool.   Also, after running the Malware scan, I went into my cont panel to try to del N360 that way.  Still ran forever "initializing".

'preciate your help and patience.

Ya'll must not want to loose customers, you put glue on the prog before sending it out...lol

Hi 123JudyB123,

I just read thru this thread and I have to ask - which browser are you using?

You were asked earlier to tell us the version of your N 360 standard.  You said you didn't know how to do that. Please open N 360 and click on Support on the main page and then About from the drop down.  You should see an entry for version which is what we are asking for.

You mentioned that you had N 360 201`0 and purchased an upgrade last year and install N 360 a week ago - is your subscription expired by chance?  Please explain to us how you got the copy to install a week ago.

At least Malwarebytes made some progress for you.

Try downloading the Norton Removal Tool from here. If your browser is blocking redirects, this link will bypass those.

If that works you can try the instructions I gave above.

This morning I ran the Malware prog and found more errors, which I cleaned up.  OK...now it took me 12 tries to get to internet ("this program is not responding") notification.  Rebooted and finally was allowed to get here.

Now, to answer your ques.  I can NOT open N360, as it is always "initializing" and freezes, so I have to ctr/alt del to close it.  This is all I can pull up for you (I installed the N360 on 8-13-12):

If you need to install Norton 360 v6 on a different computer, copy the folder C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\Norton\{N360630014-SHPD-FSD25037} to that computer, then double-click the N360-UPGRADE-ESD-NoDefs-19-8-0-14-EN.exe icon to install the product.

Product key(s):
Norton 360 v6

I received a popup from Norton informing me my prog was due for the upgrade.  I went to the Norton website and downloaded your standard.  Everything went fine.  Download worked properly.  No prob until later that day, I noticed it was more diff to get to the internet, but sporatic.  Then I couldn't get an upgrade of flash player.  Wasn't too concerned, just thought it was me.  It got worse and worse, slower and slower.  I had Norton, so I wasn't concerned about any spyware, etc.  Also had Windows Defender....what the heck, double dose of protection...right?   Guess not.   Finally, got really frustrated and started this thread....and here we are.

Oh, yes....tried to click the removal tool link that the other guru suggested in the last msg....no go.  Same prob.  No "internet connection" popup.

I don't dig into the Web and go into questionable websites.  I stick to my specific favorites.  Haven't downloaded anything except N360 (and recently) the Malware prog.  Don't do games except what is in Microsoft.

I know ya'll are just trying to figure this out and help, but I'm ready to toss this comp I'm so frustrated.  I was tempted to go into setups and start "clicking", but was afraid I'd do more damage (besides I don't know doodoo about it).

Thanks!

Do you have TortoiseSVN software on your computer? There is a known issue that is resolved by updating the Tortoise software.

No I do not.  Never heard of it.  Thanks for the input, though.

Have to restart comp to get to internet.  Malware prog found 4 prob and fixed.  When I can get to net, things go fine....it's just getting there is a prob.  BTW is is new!!  Didn't have this until Malware prog.  Obviously, something??? is blocking/stopping/hendering.  Do I need to turn something on/off?  Norton does not want to go away or even get fixed.  Can not upgrade anything (flash player, adobe, etc).

Help....please.

Try running a full system scan in Safe Mode with both Norton and Malwarebytes. Reboot between the scans. This may delete malware that could be hiding behind running Windows processes.

Test the sytem.

If you are still having trouble, click on the Start button. Search for msconfig.exe. Right click on it and click run as administrator. Click on the Startup tab and then click to disable all programs from starting up.

Reboot and test the system. If it now works, try re enabling a few programs at a time in msconfig. Reboot and test again until you find the offending program.

See if any of this helps.

Will try.  Wish me luck.  Thanks!

Went into Safe Mode and ran scan as you suggested....BINGO!  Malware problems....fixed.  Ran scan 3 times before final clean.

BTW FYI I could remove N360 in Safe Mode without  a prob!  Ran Malware again in Safe Mode after removing N360....more problems (64)...fixed!

Out of Safe Mode, turned on Microsoft Defender and could update that program without a prob!!!!  I hesitate right now, to reinstall N360 'cause this comp is ZIPPING ALONG and don't want to upset my HAPPY mood right now.  Prob tomorrow morning (and I'll update you on it's status).  I will also try to update other prog that have been blocked and I now know how I can fix most of the problems.

After sending this and acknowledging you are a GOD :smileywink:, I will do a HAPPY DANCE

OK, Seem to be getting somewhere.

It would still be worth reinstalling 360, to see if things work properly now that things have been cleaned up. If it does not work, you now know how to uninstall if necessary.

Sorry I cannot accept the promotion you are offering..:smileywink:  But I do appreciate your elation.
