Today, I launched the following programs: RSS Guard, Deep Rock Galactic, and Pocket Waifu: Desktop Pet. For whatever stupid reason, Norton Firewall blocked all 3 programs from getting Internet access and repeatedly sent out annoying windows about whether to allow those programs access or not. Many of my older firewall rules have also been apparently lost. For whatever reason, Norton firewall set DRG and Pocket Waifu’s firewall rules to Ask, and RSS Guard’s rules to Custom.
I suspect these changes also affect many other safe programs. Norton, clean up this huge mess of needless program blocking and dialogue windows. It’s annoying and a huge waste of my time.
That made things worse. Lost my custom program rules. And the idiotic notifications are back. Whoever is responsible for these decisions at Norton to wreck their firewall rules should be immediately fired.
This is the worst update I have seen in the last 25+ years I have been using Norton, I lost all my custom program rules and the new smart firewall is not working properly, the “more” option to block new app does not save. The big question is to Symantec is WHY the upgrade it was NOT broken.
Hello @Kenneth_Van_Der_Heyd
Norton 360 v24?
Automatic Program Control > Smart Mode?
Low Risk Applications > Alert if Suspicious?
Were you running Automatic Program Control with v22?
Norton™ is part of Gen™ - a global company with a family of consumer brands including Norton, Avast, LifeLock, Avira, AVG, ReputationDefender and CCleaner.
Okay…I was curious why “custom firewall rules”?
Yes, as you can imagine…v24 Automatic Program Control created new rules.
Caveat: I’m always APC. On rare occasion I’ve opted Block against an Allow.
“Restore to default” … does not cause any issue…my side. APC re-creates program rules.
Currently, most of my programs get an Allow. Some get a Block for my own reasons. Yesterday, before this update, just about every program was on Allow, with a Block only for specific programs.
I was using manual program control to block some programs that keep on calling “home” After a restart all my programs that I control have now appeared in “smart firewall” that is set to manual. All good now. Thank you.
Set Smart Firewall to Smart Mode, restarted my computer, ran 2 games, and Smart Firewall is still throwing out these blasted notifications. Norton screwed up with this update.
