I have a new computer PC Windows 7 for which my Norton was installed and the Norton 360 icon disappears from the Task Bar. Does this mean it is not working at all and I am suspect to viruses? When it disappears, I go to the START menu and select from there but it does not work. I have to restart the computer and then, 99% the Norton 360 icon is there at the Task Bar. What is going on?

Twice since I got this new computer (2 weeks ago) and installed Norton 360 I have done my Live Updates each day and each time I get a message that the updates are successful and then a few minutes later I get this message which is basically telling me to run Live Updates and then a Full custom scan. What is going on?
there is a McAfee Security Scan Plus on the Thermaltake computer which has a ASUSTEK Motherboard. Model: M5A97. I am not using McAfee and told the seller I had no desire for any other anti-virus to be installed. In fact the seller stated that Norton 360 was the best when I was ordering his system.
I wasn't implying your system is infected but id better to be more than sure ;)
About the latest version, usually is the more stable and efficient, and if there was any kind of incompatibility with al older version, with the new one usually is solved, that's the reason i suppose is better to upgrade if possible.
well the norton is one problem. i keep getting stop errors when visiting web sites and running streaming video on sites that are supposedly okay and i believe the error is stating i need to make sure that the programs i have installed on windows 7 are installed correctly. it's very difficult to read a STOP ERROR screen in three seconds before it disappears from the screen.
i am going out today to purchase Norton 360 Version 6 and see it that helps.... <fingers crossed>
This morning I ran the updates and all was fine. Then I I ran my Quick Scan and got error 3038, 104. I just ran the Live Update prior and it went thru successfully. So, I don't understand and the 104 is a new error stating I need to update my virus definitions....makes no sense...

There is no need to go and buy a copy of version 6 as long as you have a valid key for a previous version.
From your Norton Account you can click on 'download' and it will install the latest version. Run LiveUpdate a number of times, rebooting as necessary, until it tells you there are no updates available.
well this is interesting. i have the new version 360 V6 Premier installed and it has a Gadget in addition to the icon on the taskbar. At times the gadget turns black and the icon disappears fromt the task bar at the same time.
What is going on? Please, I do not understand this
#1. Is the application still working?
# 2.Is the application not working?
If I go to the Start and access it from there it is not responding.....
How can I trust that Norton is actively working when the icon disappears or the gadget turns black? This is a brand new computer I'm dealing with here..... This didn't do this on my old Xp computer.....
I spoke to norton rep on the phone yesterday. he said that it's either a virus or an operating system problem. after telling him all that is happening with the system including blue/white screens/Windows Boot Manager, crashing browsers, Microsoft Word problems---he said this:
Uninstall Norton 360 V6 with the Uninstall Utiltiy from Norton which he showed me where it is online and then reinstall it. IF things continue on as they were it is an Operating System problem. He is suppose to call me back today.
So I did just that and on the re-install which said it was Successful -- I next went to do the Live Update for the first time and the Live Update box disappeared from the screen only after downloading about 10 MB of the 41.88 MB, the Norton gadget disappered from the screen and the Norton Icon disappeared from the task bar. I went to Start and accessed Norton 360 from there for the Live Update and then it finished downloading the Live Update and then the gadget reappeared and the Norton icon reappeared on the task bar......after that I did a full system scan.... So..... that's not looking like that works properly if it stopped right in the middle of doing the initial download after re-install.
Then i went online with chrome browser and it crashed "memory could not be read and shockwave flash crashed. same ole stuff
