Lngary,
First of all, I'm really sorry to hear about your computer problems. We've all been there at one point or another. I hope you are indeed able to recover your system, and if not, that you backed up your files regularly (always a good idea).
There is no reason why installing N360 (or any Norton product) would cause this issue to occur on a stable system. However, in an otherwise unstable environment (OS damage, infection, hard drive failure, etc.) the removal of any security program could indeed break the camel's back and cause the system to fail.
Regular system maintenance including defragmenting, running chkdsk, removing temporary files, and running LiveUpdate can help prevent situations such as these. Nevertheless, hard drives only have a life expectancy of about 5 years of moderate use, so there's really no guarantees. Worst case scenario, you can almost certainly reformat and reinstall your OS to get the computer up and running again, albeit without your old data. If you haven't already been doing so, may I recommend in the future backing up regularly to an external harddrive any file you don't want to potentially lose. Norton Ghost is a fantastic program for creating full system backups as well. Sorry again, and best of luck!
