360 v3.0 - instal problem after trial version expiry of later version

Have sub to 360 v3.0 which was installed previously on 3 pc's

Purchased new pc and disabled account on old pc months ago with a restore pc to factory settings function.

Have been using the trial version that came on new pc.  Trial time was up so decided to uninstall and install my 360 v3.0 purchased product.

Used removal tool

downloaded v3.0 but it auto went to 5.0 and has put me on a trial again.

I want to be able to get back to my legally purchased product and system won't recognise it.

Previous pc was Vista 32bit - current pc Win7 64bit.

Any ideas why I am not able to be recognised with a v3.0 install by being told product has expired and have trial version 5.0 instead????

Thanks

Hi Astraoz,

The Product Key for version 3 is valid for version 5 as well.  Just leave the newest version installed and use the Renew link to enter the Product Key you have from the old version.

Thanks - I had done that but next to the trial it states that it is only valid until the 10th Aug. yet the purchased prod tells me the 25th Aug. - don't know which one it will take as true and correct.

I used my product key on my disk to activate instal so hope it takes the later one - don't want the same trouble again in a couple of days.

Thanks again.

Hello Astraoz

Welcome to the Norton Community Forum

You had to get version 5 as version 3 would not work with Windows 7. The key if it is still valid should activate the product ok. You can check the expiration date by clicking on Support and  Subscription Status. It should say something similar to that wording. I have NIS so I am not sure of the exact wording on N360.

If you have any problems with activation, then you can contact customer support. for free via the chat feature.

This is the link for US/Can. If you need a different location, please consult your local Symantec site for the local free chat customer support link.

Please come back and let us know how you made out. Thanks.

Well...  not happy with support line.

They got me to download the same file saying I had downloaded the wrong file to start with - but it added a (1) to the end so still think there is a problem with their installer file - he kept insisting I picked NIS when the product clearly tells me 360 Premier.

Removed with removal tool and installed the file they told me was correct and presto still have same prob. (did the reboots in between).

I suppose I am back to another 1/2 hour call to support again....

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction though - that was very much appreciated.  I at least got the info that v3.0 is not comp with Win 7.0 that's why it wants to put me to 5.0 but still insisting I am on Trial NIS when clearly I have 360 v5.0 on desktop!!

Have you entered your Product Key yet?  Click Renew and submit the key in the space provided.  Your program will continue to show as a trial version until you enter a valid key.

Yes - have done all that numerous times.

Yet to call support again.

Thanks

Dear Astraoz,

If Your Product Key Is Still Valid It Should Work Just Fine. If You're Not Sure If It's Valid Or Not, You Can Log Into Your Norton Account Online To Check If It's Valid. If The Issue Still Persists, You Can Contact Norton Support By Going To  http://www.symantec.com/feedback/contactus.jsp  I Suggest Using LiveChat So You Can Talk To A Support Representative Directly Regarding Your Issue.

Hi Aidan

My product key is still valid until 25th of this month.  I just need to get back on to support to assist again - i need them to suss out why it keeps pointing me to NIS Trial not my valid account key.

thanks for responding.

Astraoz.

Dear Astraoz,

No Problem. If Any Other Problems Come Up, Feel Free To Tell Me.

Hello Astraoz

Here are the links for N360. I'm not sure which version of N360 you need, whether you need standard or premier. So I will post all the various N360 version 5's and you pick out the one that matches your product key.

http://www.norton.com/n360s_5 (standard)

http://www.norton.com/n360p_5 (premier)

http://www.norton.com/n360sne_5 (standard - netbook edition)

http://www.norton.com/n360pne_5 (premier - netbook edition)

Please pick the appropriate link based on the product key you have.

After you install the proper N360, then please enter your key in the Renew part or Subscribe. That should pick up the remaining time on your subscription. Please also remember that once the expiration date comes, the product will stop working unless you purchase a new boxed copy or a new key from Symantec. You can shop around and find the best deal and then we will tell you what to do a day or 2 before it expires. Thanks.

Hi flopot

I have already done as you suggested and Norton Support suggested - using 360 5 premier.

Used removal tool

rebooted

Installed with new installer

rebooted

applied key

Go to my account and get shown I am on a Trial Version of NIS and my 360 5.0 Premier desktop still insists it is on a 30 day trial - am over it.

Will reconsider when account is due at e.o.m.

thanks

Astraoz

Merged with user’s ongoing thread for better exposure.

Hi Astraoz,

Your Norton Accout will show all versions of Norton that have ever been registered to the account.  Norton will only allow one of it's security programs to exist on a sysem at a time - installing a new one will automatically uninstall the old (or cause the new one not to install).  If Norton 360 is on your system, and you have activated it with a product key, then the number of days remaining on the subscription will show on the main Norton window.  You can also run the Subscription Status check from the Support menu to verify the time remaining.  Ignore the reference to NIS in your Norton Account - it is no longer active if NIS has been uninstalled.

Morning - its not happening.

I know what it is supposed to do but that isn't occurng. can't add s/d in pdf and no good in txt file

Don't know why when I key in my product key it still says trial.

ta

Are you using the Product Key from Norton 360 v3?  Was this a premier edition?  If you have installed version 5 Premier you would need a premier key to activate it.  Otherwise you need to install the regular editon of version 5.

You have already posrted a new message on this topic and have replies -- it does not help to repeat so I've asked a moderator to move your message and avoid confusing replies .....

Hi - Yes I have a Premier Key for v3.0 - was told to use Premier 5.0 as that was the equivalent for Win 7.0 compatibility.

Huwynger - Not sure why you say I have posted a new message on this topic and have replies, I have not posted this question anywhere else and only responded on this thread that I am aware of.  This is my original one and only post and thread.

I will talk to Norton support closer to when my sub ends for them to sort out before I renew or decide elsewhere.

Thanks.

Astroaz,

I'm sorry my mesage appeared directed to you -- it was directed at another person who had jumped into your thread with what they thought was the same problem but wasn't really and was a duplicate of a thread they had started.

Unfortunately I didn't put their name at the beginning of my message and it was left here and not moved with the one I was addressing, which has now been moved into the posters original thread ......

Sorry about that .. your plea of not guilty is accepted and you may leave without a blemish on your character .... <g>

Cool - good to know one can hold their head up high without a blemish to be seen :smileywink:

Have a good one
