On Running the Registry Cleanup it takes an eternity. After having it run it was still going after 30 mins with no sign of progress.
Any ideas?

Hi misatok11,
Welcome to Norton Community!
Let us know the following information:
- Your Operating System.
- Do you have any other security products installed along with Norton 360?
- Did you had any Norton products installed before this?
Run LiveUpdate repeatedly until you receive all the available updates, restart the computer and then run the registry cleanup again.

I am having the same problem. I am running windows 7 home premium. 32 bit operating system.
I have applied all updates and restarted and the registery cleanup will start normally. Then it stops at font section and shows no disk activity. Stays like that until you stop it.
I have left it running overnight and it does not make any more progress.
I recently started having a problem with registry cleanup too. It runs to 100% and just stays there and never ends.
Is there anything visibly wrong with your computer? Are you getting any error messages saying something wrong with it?
If it's working leave the registry alone or you are more likely to end up with a doorstop.
If your computere is still working despite your registry cleaner not apparently functioning, be thankful and don't run it again unless something goes wrong and you have reason to believe that something in the registry needs fixing -- and then don't do it unless you could do it manually by editing your registry yourself.
Extreme advice but based on the number of people (and I don't mean only here) who post on the internet that they used a registry cleaner and now their PC doesn't work .......
This is not the answer I was looking for. I beta tested 5 and this problem occurred and then was fixed by an update. I have been using it in the final without any problems until yesterday. I would think if what you suggest was valid, the people at Norton would not have included it. Thanks anyway.
I thought I'd included, but see I did not, that my POV was not restricted to the Norton Registry Cleaners but to these in general.
It's based on decades of experience in doing support in other Forums on Windows and Computer Problems and seeing what I deecribed and triggered by an influx of reports from users with a problem.
The "fault" may not be in Norton but in the fiercely defensive attitude that Windows takes towards the way it works and it's now so complex that I often doubt if Microsoft itself knows everything that goes on or is actually in the Registry! And I happen to know from experience I have seen that Windows is particularly sensitive to fonts and deleting/uninstalling some of them can bring Windows to a halt ..... yet those fonts are ones that very few normal users would ever need or even know about.
And if you leave well enough alone, as I suggest, that does not mean that Norton will not look for a bug -- that's why they monitor these forums!
I also started experiencing Registry Cleanup never ending in the Fonts Section when I upgraded to V5. No Issues with V4. I also have Norton Utilities and use the Registry Cleanup process with no issues. Is Norton working on fixing this? Does anyone know? Is the world flat? Curious minds want to know.
Addition: I am running Windows XP Professional.
I am having the same problem with the Registry Clean Up hanging in the fonts section. I have seen other postings where it the cleaner has deleted MS fonts I am using XP Pro, SP3 and 360 V5
I’m having the same problem with the registry cleaner hanging at the FONTS SECTION. Just upgraded to Norton 360 from NIS 2011. The OS is XP Home Edition SP 3. All updates have been applied. Installed Norton 360 on my other two home computers with Win 7 and not having the hang problem. Ran BUDUMP and the removal tool and reinstalled. Same hang issue. When I cancel, I eventually get the message “Symantic Service Framework has encountered a problem and needs to close”. The icon near the clock disappears. This is a repeat event.
Hi
try turning off insight protection Compressed file scan
I am also having problems with 360 5 when using registry cleanup. It stops at Activex/COMand then turns off Norton I'm using Windows 7 ultimate 64 bit with SP1). Norton have made many attempts to sort this out. Last friday they had my computer for over 5 hours, but could not solve the problem. They are trying again tomorrow with a new team. I will post details of their progress, but there does seem to be a major problem .

Personally, although I hope they find the problem, I'd stop using the registry cleaner -- not just the Norotn one but any one. They are of very dubious value in my opinion and that of many that I respect and you really need to know enough about the registry to judge whether or not it is safe to take that action ... and just regard the cleaner as a convenient tool to do something you know needs to be done and yourself know how to do it.
Fonts are a dangerous area because WIndows itself is critically dependent on the presence of certain fonts that do not look necessary to us as users but I've seen too many people "clean up" their PC and get rid of stuff that's not needed only to find it won't boot up .....
If the computer is working OK leave it alone .......
